Nightclubs in Zurich...and beyond

Hi,

Going to Zurich tomorrow and would like to know any recommendations for places which play a bit of everything. I love my techno/minimal but my friends aren't really into that...

Also, is there is a dress code for clubs? I'm not planning on turning up in trainers but wouldn't want to be too over dressed either... I've noticed a few posh looking places for over 24s which definitely tell you to dress up, but for other places they don't really say so I count on you, experienced clubbing forum members, to help me out with this one

Not being a clubber myself (way too old now) the only advice I can give you is avoid places that say "Night Club" outside, especially in the Niederdorf, or on Langstrasse. These places are not what you think.

Then check out http://www.hiveclub.ch/

Dont forget that the "Street Parade" will be on in August.

tillate.ch

Abart is doing a Pulp Fiction night tomorrow with some other 60s RNB / Soul thrown in. Its my bag but not everyones.

I find www.usgang.ch very helpful when I'm plannin' a nightout ..

...and avoid anywhere which only allows patrons over 24: it'll be full of Hooray-Henrys forming a long, long, long queue for the WC, and humourless Ukrainian Professional Ladies looking expensive. Unless you like that sort of thing...

Best to visit a few bars first, ask the good looking people where's where

hive n zukunft for e-music

abart for indie-tunes

there are more, but there is no need to try to explain every squat or backyard if you arent local and for 1 night only into town...

only one thing: keep out of the central city around bahnhofstrasse. its like uncle max said...but if you fancy that...there you go.

Take a look at this website as well:

If you like the pop/dance-music from the 80's/90's check this club very close to the lake (interior is a bit strange: mix of gothic style and kitsch)

Thanks for your help. Feel free to tell me other places as I only live in Baden and will try and go out in Zurich often

http://www.abart.ch -> abart= live gigs, indie disco

http://www.seefeld-razzia.ch/ -> razzia= live music, indie and electronic disco

http://www.rotefabrik.ch/de/home/ -> rote fabrik= live gigs, indie or electronic sets from time to time. very alternative location nestled by the lake

http://www.moods.ch/ -> moods= very much known for jazz, folk, worldmusic and live gigs. its located in the schiffbau where loads of other interesting cultural things are going on. same is with "mehrspur" in niederdorf, nice jazz club.

http://www.marsbar.ch - >mars bar = live gigs, indie disco

http://www.lacatrina.ch/ ->la catrina= live gigs, indie disco

http://www.baeckeranlage.ch/ -> bäckereianlage=live gigs, dj sets

http://www.ellokal.ch/ -> el lokal= live gigs, not a real dance/disco spot

http://stall6.ch -> stall6= live gigs, dj sets

http://www.zukunft.cl/ -> zukunft= mostly dj (live)sets, rarely indie tunes/gigs

http://www.hiveclub.ch/ -> hive club= dj (live) sets, gigs. mostly electronic music, but indie n electronic live gigs on tw floors

http://www.rohstofflager.ch/default.aspx -> rohtofflager= live gigs throughout the week, dj sets at weekends. soon to be closing.

vibe of night varies. can be a kiddies party or a decent night out. 50/50 chance here...

http://www.alteboerse.com/ -> alte börse = mostly dj (live)sets

habsburgstrasse is a club, a word-by-mouth-thing. keep your ear to the ground n follow the vibes. its mostly electronic music

üetlibergstrasse 119= squat (see habsburgstrasse)

thats my "go"-list. rules: dont come in groups more than 2, if-> have more girls in group than boys otherwise make groups of 2. and dont let the bouncer get that youre coming together as a group, because then this scheme doesnt help you. dresscode none but for ME dont come in "latest" hip-hop-style imported from 50cent videos. but be yourself!

time of arrival: weekends make it 1:30-2 or be there 12. 12:30-1:30 is peak.

cover: 18-35chf (depends on what act is on the bill)

my no-go list

oxa, club q, pur pur, indochine, kaufleuten, st.germain, carlton, mascotte (but check tuesdays karaoke one time you are here) platins (is this still on?)

maag areal, kanzlei, x-tra, amber. why? for me a club allowing constantly people in on a friday or saturday night with wearing a suit is a major turnoff. feels like im dancing next to my boss...sux. furthermore i feel visually uncomfy having too many guys in wife beaters, feeling cool wearing iroquois hairdos with fake sun tan and "bijou brigitte" bling-bling. or those folks trying to outclass themselfes with the lowest golf handicap and the bigger maserati.

i dont add a bar list as there are way too many...in general id recommend kreis 3,4,5. 6/wipkingen is up n coming. boring is most of seefeld and city locations.

nice info,

living over a year here and havent really party much.

extreme contrast, since I used to live in NY!

I will use this as a guide

thanks flow and Hanaliz

Alte Boerse is one of my faves, not dressy and plays some wicked tunes (elektro, minimal, house etc) http://www.alteboerse.com/programm.2.html

Great atmosphere too, you can chill or dance to your hearts content with no-one batting an eyelid.

I took JLP and Canadian Dude there and they seemed to like it.

need to add

http://www.loop38.ch/ -> loop38 club this takes one back really to beginning of the 90ies, when raves came up and the after hour wast a must. or you decided after beakfast on sunday to go for a party.

same thing here:

more donts: no cameras, no white gloves, no whistles, please!

well... wer lesen kann ist klar im vorteil. already listed...

He was just pointing out he's into threesomes. Allegedly.

Just because it's already listed doesn't mean I can't also reccommend it personally with a bit more detail than you provided does it... or am I missing some hidden clause where you have sole rights to everything posted on the internet just because you wrote it first...

Allegedly?

it was a bit of missunderstanding of me, sawry!
