I moved over a year ago to the center of the village/town last year mid Corona. Recently the restaurant opposite has been putting the television in outside and keeping the Euro 2020 matches playing until 23:10. Yesterday was particularly bad with Italy Vs Switzerland with people outside until 12:30 am.
Is there anything I can do? Raise a formal complaint with the local police. The rules are confusing as I thought they couldn't make noise after 10pm. Any advice would be very welcome.
If the noise continues and there is nothing you can do to stop it, I suggest getting some custom-made silicone earplugs to block out the noise, to allow you to sleep. They block out noise much, much better than store-bought / regular earplugs and are also much more comfortable because they fit perfectly inside your ear since they're custom-made. I had mine done at a hearing aid store (in Uster) and they cost about 100 CHF. So they're not cheap, but hey... good sleep is worth it.
Maybe I'm becoming more integrated! All joy shall be quite and personal and not bother others outside of the quite hours. Vigorous bedroom activities shall be performed before 2200.
Personally, in a small village, I'd be very careful about escalating, if you want any chance of integrating or making friends within the village...
Appreciate it must be quite annoying for you, but how lovely that the restaurant can trade again - good for their livelihoods and for any paid staff, and great for you when you want to grab an easy bite to eat or drink....
Have a quiet chat with the restaurant owners? Maybe they'll comp you some meals or beers in return for putting up with the noise?
It's wonderful that people are coming together to enjoy the football. Moments like this bond people together. It's nice to hear their celebrations and commiserations, after nearly 18 months of being cooped-up at home, and the service indistry is in dire need of our support right now.
You should go and join them, tip well, and soak-up the ambiance, regardless of whether football's your thing, or not. I was reflecting earlier upon how much about the wider world I have learnt from loving football (in recent days, reading a lot on cardiac arrests, as an example).
Don’t forget the rule about drivers with low IQ being required to attach flags with red background and white cross to the wings of their cars - so other motorists know that the numpties are out and about.
