non-factory rims, FZ Ausweis

Allowed tire sizes should be listed on the driver-side door post.

Tom

that I know, main question here is the non-factory rim set.

That metal sticker on the door-frame is about tire sizes; also earlier here it was mentioned that it is fine to defer from that size even up to 8% if transmission is not altered.. (tire diff now is 1%, and I'm also happy to change to same size, just wouldnt like to throw away the nice set of rims..

aSwissInTheUS, thanks a lot for such a detailed explanation!

so if I have the same size, e.g. 7.00x17 5x114.30 ET55.00 like the factory one, I shouldnt worry?

Would i need any paperwork to prove that?

If I were you I would write to the E-Mail address I listed above indicating exact model of your car (maybe send a scan of your FZ Ausweis) and the details of your rims and ask if you need any additional papers.

If it is the same material (light metal or steel) there is nothing to worry about. Unless you are unfortunate and have also a make restriction in the cars type approval.

If all is according the cars type approval you should be fine.

As said many time before, get an TARGA-Tyre extract from a tyre or rim dealer and see what is actually listed in your cars type approval.

Just go to the bloody test centre and ask

Ask you garage

Ask a policemen

But please, stop asking the same question over and over again

Man (or Maam), if you would read through the replies, you would see some confusion e.g. no need if same size vs it’s a must w certificates from dealor, vendor, etc.. that’s why question comes up from diff angles.

I guess the main point of forums is to ask ppl for advice and experience.. guess you know that, having 9999 Thanks.. i’m pretty sure 90% of the threads could be googled or asked directly by the given authorities.. we might have limitations to do that due to language, travel limitations, etc..

Yes, I plan to visit my garage soon, but excuse me if I cant afford him to do it for cpl hundreds extra bucks, i’m happy if it does my annual basic maintenance for 6-700 every yr.

The goal is to avoid any fines or formal hassle; trying to imagine both the policemen or SVA situation along your suggestion..

Sorry, big temptation, but won’t give you the 10K Thanks.. have a nice wknd!

Just go to your garage and ask them, they won't charge you

Ask a policeman, they won't charge you

Ask Service des Autos, they won't charge you

Ask any 2 bit mechanic, hew won't charge you.

Obviously you have no idea about rim sizes and tire sizes so do us all a favour and ask somebody who does know to look at your particular examples.

End of story

Sorry to ask, but what’s your problem? (I only had a glimpse of your comments on EF today)

‘Obviously’ ..

and sorry again, but who the F@@k are you to judge what do I know about tyres or rims? Guess what, in many EU countries I had cars so far or especially in the US, there were no such strict policies like here in CH.

btw if you really live here, i still dont understand how would you imagine the policemen part?! should I walk into the police station with this, ask one at the HB? or should I try one after a concert or a football game?

when you use the word ‘us’ do you really represent the whole forum? nobody else is here to help ppl who might have similar problems they have faced in the past.. right??

Clearly you've never been to Germany. Or Italy. Or...

Switzerland is a piece of cake compared to the EU.

Tom

Oh sorry, i thought you knew, technically i should have said Gendarmerie who handle traffic but as you are so knowledgeable, i am still curious why you asking such dam fool questions.

However if you are really too stupid to understand where and which sort of police you should ask, i guess it is a mute point anyway.

Just go to "Service des Autos" they will tell you immediately via their computer what wheel/tire combos are authorised for your particular type f car

Wow, it's different here than elsewhere, guess what, standard of living is also different than elsewhere too, get over it !

As for the "us" bit, you have already been told several times how to do it, where to look, i was talking for the people who have already given you the answer, evidently you have a problem understanding

While I enjoy my Laphroaig why dont you spend your Fri night posting the ‘go and ask police jerk, and dont waste our time’ to almost every post in the driving section ?!

Thanks everyone, especially aSwissintheUS and TinyK

Enjoy you evening /off

You really are a bore

You really are a bit of a bully.

If you find it boring then just skip the thread, but personally I'd really like to know the definitive answer: if, as ASitUS has said, any rims/tyres in a size that is standard for the vehicle don't need approval, nor any documentation.

Most cars will have a sticker somewhere, (e.g. inside the petrol filler flap) that lists tyre pressure for various sizes, so it would be great if we could establish that any sizes listed there would not be subject to any further investigation.

The idea of asking the police is ludicrous, by the way. what's the point of the internet if you're not going to use it?

If the rim/tyre size has been approved for the car by the manufacturer, the producer of the tyre/rim is irrelevant.

The size has to EXACT same as what the car was approved with, either here or in Europe via CoC certificate.

If you are not sure, go to Service des Autos, they will tell you exactly what rim/tyre combo is approved for your exact vehicle based on chassis number of your vehicle.

Get the Swiss required documentation from the manufacturer. If they can not send you Swiss ones then at least get the German docs. Then ask the motor vehicle department if you need a control. If they say yes then make an appointment.

Thx, the certificate is available from MAM rim manufacturer online for HONDA, and it clearly lists my model.

Will plan to ask the SVA asap have time to go; I heard from a garage that earlier it was necessary to have proof for the exact vehicle (by VIN), and you were not allowed to put the rims on exact same model either, while now it’s not mandatory to have them listed in the grey book

If it is a "TÜV Teilegutachten" then it nearly as useful as a napkin or toilet paper. "TÜV Teilegutachten" is a of document hierarchy class 4, but you need a document of class 3 or better. Problem is, that a "TÜV Teilegutachten" is not a statement with which the manufacture or distributor takes full responsibility and liability. For details see ASA guideline 2b, Section 2.2, 3.2, and 4.5.2.1

I can only link, so many times to the official documents:

VTS https://www.admin.ch/opc/de/classifi...165/index.html

ASA Guideline 2a https://asa.ch/it/biblioteca-online/direttive/

ASA Fact Sheet No. 19 https://asa.ch/it/biblioteca-online/promemoria/

ASA is the association of all SAN/StVA (vehicle registration and inspections offices). The above guideline is the work instruction used to inspect and asses modifications on cars.

Finally got an invitation to bring my car (first on the road in February 2014) for the MFK.

I am not the original owner, and when I bought the car in July 2018 it had only summer tires. The previous owner hardly drove it and not in the winter. We rarely have snow where we live so last Fall I bought winter tires including rims in Germany.

The MFK went well except for the rims. I had the ABE paperwork issued by the KBA in Germany which the examiner looked at and said I need to make another appointment so they can enter this information on the grey card and I must pay a fee of chf 100. Today I paid chf 65.

Of course had the invitation arrived in the summer the rims would not have been a topic. As I am selling the car I want to have everything in order and not pass on a problem to an unsuspecting buyer.
