My girlfriend is obsessed with op shopping and going to flea markets and I think that is one thing she is really going to miss when not being in Australia. Are there these types of things in Switzerland?
Thanks!

most of the ones in zurich close for winter in november (till may) but then we have second hand shops or brockenhaus here is a link
I adore wooden toys (and have kids so I can justify buying them) and we are getting stuff here in Zurich that we hardly ever get in Aust - plenty more nice wooden toys and items.
So, in answer to your question, no problem. They are easy to find and easy to browse...the only limit is that we don't have car so I'm limited to what I can pile in the stroller!...yesterday I brought home a large stool and a small table on my stroller...
I don't think this is about getting rid of Grandpa's junk. Many of the traders are in it because they enjoy being in it. Sometimes you can pick up real bargains but you have to know a thing or two about antiques etc to tell a real bargain from a pretend one.
I also recommend the "Brockis", these are second hand shops sometimes but not always run by or for charity. I started visiting these as a student and furnished my appartment on very low budget with some very nice pieces of furniture. Some were just stop gap solutions and they went back to the Brocki as soon as I had the money to buy something more decent. But some I intend to keep, such as for example a beautiful carved oak art-deco writing desk which I got dirt cheap and looks really neat now that I've got around to cleaning it up.
I'm also into collecting old picture postcards and many flea markets are good places to pick up bargains on those.
I don't know the flea markets, will have to let my wife get back to you on those. Oh, and watch out for odd vinyl at flea markets and the brockies, I've seen a few interesting titles (although none in good condition so far), but it's well worth poking around in all the stalls...
Being relocated to Suisse and not on a enormous budget, some people from our company will be definitely interested in the second hand market - especially as far as the household articles are for sale.
I tried - but I could not find any 'gumtree' type websites in Switzerland. ANY IDEAS/WEBSITES/ SUGGESTIONS WARMLY WELCOME!!! THANKS!
Also - can anyone suggest that type of venues/events in the Fribourg area?
It seems to me that nobody sells any second hand furniture in the Suisse - is that true?
Thank you in advance to all!
Ebay.ch
There is a for sale/wanted and free stuff section here on the english forum which has pretty high turnover...
No, it is not true at all about second hand furniture - the second-hand market here is *alive and kicking* - there are plenty of places to get stuff...and decent prices too...
There is also more than one chain of cheaper style furniture (Ikea, Fly and Pfister come to mind, also TopTip is another one...
I heard complaints about shopping here, but I haven't really had too much trouble - we are in Zurich so that does make a difference, and part of the problem is having enough time to get around and work out where the shops can be found!
If you are looking for second-hand use the German word 'Brockenhaus' or 'Brocki' and you'll find plenty of places...also "Brockenstube' and 'Fundgrube'...
Good night!
Unfortunately, eBay.ch is quite small and not very popular Everytime I see something I like and I think the item is in Switzerland, I find out they are actually in Germany or France. Don't the swiss like second hand stuff?
Have also been to Morges market on saturday morning.
Any other ideas?
p.s. maybe this is an aussie thing I used to a do a trawl of all the local st. vinnies once a year with my little sister, mainly for clothes. If that is what you are wanting then there are quite a few 2nd hand clothes shops, pretty cheap, where all the merchandise has been washed and ironed! There is one in Lausanne on Place de la Palud, opposite Yendi which is good (only women's clothes) and which can also give you a list off all similar shops near Lausanne.
I've been told you can find more on there.
Then there is another in Altdorf just off Lehnplatz and diagonally opposite co-op. This one is very good for clothes last time we were in there was an incredible collection of antique lacewear.
