I have to concur that while the Talacker is a great bar, it's not very "open-mic" friendly...
dave
Not sure how open he'll be to an "open mic" - worth a try- you'd have to explain the way it is in the UK/USA and that it will attract a different sort of "musician" - he might bite...
- Talaker isn't the right place but could be if it became popular (that's the kind of place Talaker is - if something is popular they will jump on the bandwagon)
- Maybe mid-week it could work @ Talaker... End of Week / Sat is no good, wrong crowd - Name @ Talaker = Yves (owner) or Chris (not sure what Chris does or who he/she is) - ps: don't quote my message not exactly the fairest "run-down" - It's just been my experience @ the place -
- Next to Talaker is "Paddy O' Reillys" That has recently done live music - small stage - I spoke to some guy there a while back and he said they were looking for bands of all sorts... That could also work. I saw an Irish duo there and they weren't half bad - a mix of covers and originals- don't have a name for this one... they are trying - they might bite
cheers
Might make a social event interest poll to see if anyone else would be up for this in whatever capacity - would probably be easier to promote to the guy at the bar if we can say "we already have "x" people wanting to perform and "y" people wanting to turn up and watch...
I play guitar and sing (if you can call it that) and would love to play at an open mic night.
One possible venue is the Dynamo near the Marriott Hotel. They host Battle of the Bands competitions, so I'm sure an open mic night could be arranged.
I don't know the Dynamo but it's one to add to the list along with El Lokal
Volunteers and indication of instruments please....?
Terry we need to do some Recce in Zürich. I suggest a short midweek crawl around central Zürich when we can overcome objects by looking around the deserted bar and offering the Chuckle-Brothers solution to their entertainment needs....
dave
Electro-acoustic guitar, and a passable attempt at singing.
Yes, sounds like a top plan My time is pretty flexible for the next couple of weeks so let me know when works for you and I'll make a trip into town to hunt down a venue
Contrary to popular rumour, I don't do the Walrus of lurve routine : not in public anyway ...
Bring it on....

We did find a good venue in the end, it's the Bling bar , every 2 weeks. I've just emailed the bloke who runs it, coincidentally, to confirm it's on next Tuesday, and as and when he replies I'll post an event.
Cheers though
It has been running on and off for the last year, but pretty consistently since September.
The next Open Mic is January 27th, and doors open at 8(but we usually start at 9ish).
The special guest is "Not the Sensational Alex Harvey Band"

I actually run an open mic night in Zurich right by the HBF. It is called Ms. Brandy's Open Mic: an open mic for open people. It has been running for the last year on and off, but consistently since September. It runs every last Sunday in the month.
The open mic is held in Bazillus (Ausstellungsstrasse 21.) The club has a great atmosphere, as it is a venue dedicate soley to live undeground music, and is not just a venue where people are chatting over top of you.
The next open mic is on Sunday January 27th. Doors open at 8, but we usually kick of the evening a little before 9. I always have a special opening act, and this month it will be "Not the Sensational Alex Harvey Band." Entrance is free, but i do pass the hat for the opening act.
There is a guitar and a keyboard available for use as well as extra amps and what not.
I hope to see you guys out!
Brandy

oh yeah...I am dragging him along to Bling tonight with me.
Basically head down Langstrasse away from the Hooters end, towards the train flyover, then just before you get to the flyover hang a left. Go past the Messner Keller on your right, and Bling is the discreet tucked away ba which is right there...no sign of which to speak, but there is a "B" logo etched on the door.
The night itself is going well - took a while to fill up last night, it was still pretty empty at 9, but in the end there were half a dozen people who played, all at a very good standard (oh and there was me as well lol) and there was a good crowd as well. Maybe see you there in 2 weeks time

Even I stopped talking for a minute
