Open Mic nights in Zug / Zurich?

That post is useless without pics

Actually, I retract this statement. All the chicks were the awesome.

I would love to post one but I am still a forum newbie and have not yet been granted the honor of posting pics/html code that makes pictures appear.

I can also put a vote for El Lokal as a venue. You forget that you are close to a busy street when you are there. However, if I remember correctly, the beer was like water but the red wine was alright.

It would be fun to hear some jams in though. Since it is outside it might also draw a larger crowd overall.

Yes hope to make it, didn't realise it had already become so established, well done for setting it up, only just noticed you had a night on Tues in the social events section! So hope to be there in two weeks time...

I can't claim it was us who set it up - we kind of hijacked a night that had just started up a few weeks before we found it

Ha ha, Brandy is hotter than the sun! Is the Bling thing still going? I checked out something there last year but it didn't look up to much. Another couple of venues that might be up for something like this:- Big Ben Westside now being run by Pete, he might be up for it on a quieter night. The Vollmond Tavern on Zentralstrasse used to have an open mic but the person that ran it buggered off to NY. Maybe they'd go for something, I think it would be perfect. Both worth a try. Brandy's Open Mic is definitely worth going to. It's the best one in Zürich. But this town has room for more.

I'm not going out to see Brandy specifically, although the fact she is hot is not likely to be bad thing. I remember looking at the venue on the flyer and trying to remember if it was that prententious place near Hardbrücke with all the kitsch statues n stuff which put me off. I could be wrong, and as Bling is having a hiattus, it may be a good time.

Bling is good fun. Cosy, intimate and bizarre. Most of all its entertaining.

Albani in WInterthur is a good music club, and they have one every first Thursday of month.

Someone told me that the Memphis Cafe on Langstrasse has them too. No idea when though. I think I went in there a few weeks ago, but I can't be sure . They were playing some cool blues...watch this space, I will check it out.

Bling is not good fun...maybe its good fun cause there are a lot of expats there. But i thought people were really loud and uninterested, and it wasnt just when i was singing : )

There is an "open stage" at Kulturmarkt in Wiedikon Zurich, but they have taken their summer pause, and so have I.

I am actually trying to get the city to fund my open mic. Open mics dont have the same function like they do in america(bringing people out on odd unbusy nights) and most places are not interested because they know it is a losing situation financially.

There is an open mic in Oerlikon as well. You should check out www.myspace.com/msbrandysopenmic . On my friends list i have links to a bunch of other open mics in the german speaking swiss area.

If you still havent been to my open mic, you can go to youtube and type in ms brandy's open mic and you'll be able to see a few faces of people(besides me) that pop up at my open mics.....

Hello everyone,

I have just read your messages re. finding a venue for Open Mic sessions in Zürich. Well, it just so happens that I am looking for musicians, as I am interested in starting an Open Mic evening at a pub in Zürich which I am the manager of. The pub is an Irish pub called The Pub, which is situated at Selnaustrasse 6, 8001 Zürich. If you are interested please let me know, I would love to hear from you so we can get something started asap.

Henriette

Hi Henriette,

As an amateur singer/songwriter, I would be very interested in an open mic evening

Hi Liacakes,

Thank you for letting me know that you would be interested in my open mic sessions at The Pub. I would love to cover all genres of music, which one are you into? Do you have any friends or know of anyone who might also be interested in joining us in the open mic evenings?

Henriette

I'm interested in performing, I know a few others too that would probably come along. Which evening are you looking at?

Hi there,

It's great to hear that you are interested in taking part! I'm thinking about thursday or friday evenings. Would you be able to find out how many of your friends might be interested in coming along too?

Hi Henriette,

I'm a singer with a guitar and I'm probably in the folk domain.

I could ask around, but I unfortunately don't know all too many other musicians.

i think my girl would be interested in playing. she does some nights in basel which anyone interested can sign up for at kaserne.

I could see myself turning up at one of these, considering the venue. Most of what I know is decidedly on the pub-folk end of the spectrum.

Officially keeping tabs...

In a similar vein, would anyone in this thread be keen to meetup at times for informal jamming/practice? We could use it as a means to improve or prepare for open mic sets. Would probably need to be acoustic so as not to piss off the neighbors but let me know if interested

Hi, Henriette. I am very interested too. I'm a singer and I mostly do cover songs (pop, light jazz, country, R&B, etc...)

Log another interest from the Schaffhausen area, I play folk post rock...

Hi Guys,

just arrived in Zurich and I am now looking for some OpenMic venues here. I would be interested in such an event. I enjoy listening to other stuff and hanging out with people as well as participating (mostly singer songwriter stuff).

So please let me know what the current status is.

KevNic, I would be interested in jamming (on a pure acoustic level). Will send you a pm.

Best,

David

P.S.: btw. I am not a native english speaker, hope thats not a problem
