Orange mobile phone insurance

I'm about to subscribe to Orange Security (10CHF/month) which covers agains loss, theft and damage. Does anyone have any experience of this Orange CH offering?

Are there any other companies worth considering?

Cheers

Bumpity bump

Surely I can't be the only one afraid of losing my 899CHF gadget?

I'd be interested in something like that from Swisscom. AFAIK you can have your iPhone insured through your home insurance - will probably cost about the same.

I have my SLR camera insured (reminder to self: need to update the policy) - costs a fortune. But for the iPhone it shouldn't be more than 120 Fr. per year.

Just make sure you read the fine print on the damage deal. Usually it does not cover broken screens. And don't forget you do lose all your data. so back up!

A friend has the Orange plan and had no problem replacing hers when it was stolen abroad.

I broke screen back home and when I brought it in, the guy said he couldn't help me. But, he said (with a wink), if were to leave it in a cab.....and that's the story I'm sticking to.

No wonder premiums are so high

Watch out, Orange.ch customers!!!

I have a new subscription (new contract) with them since a month. Yesterday I received a text saying that my orange security premium is now activated, I will receive the terms and conditions by mail.

But I never requested that "service" (=sh1t insurance). It's not in the written contract neither (looked, relooked, and re-relooked).

So basically they activate it spontaneously for new subscriber, without your permission!!!

As said above that crap costs 10CHF/month.

I had to call their "Take customers for idiots service", they played the ignorant saying that although they were no "requests" from my side on that day, I must have activated it". Also, they don't know my written contract terms and condition because they haven't received it from the shop yet (after nearly a month... ).

Additionally while waiting for a "liar assistant" to reply, I was kindly informed that they are busy and the waiting time will be 1-3 minutes. During the next 20 minutes I was also offered a few times to register to a service free for a month, to put a "new sound on my mobile" while someone call........

By the way I also had a friend with the same contract, contacted him yesterday and they had done exactly the same scam to him!!!

So I offered to call those crooks, and same type of replies: the customer must have requested that service, they did not know about it, etc....

In both case we received a "SMS" confirming we have un-registered to that service, but I won't be surprise if they try to charge it every months for a year.

Well, they'll receive shortly the resignation letter saying that at the end of the initial contract duration (12 months) i'm off.

You've been warned.

I really don't see the issue, if it was a mistake then I'm sure Orange will remove it from your contract and refund you the monthly fee. They keep notes of every phone call so if it appears the following month, they'll see that you asked to cancel it.

I've actually found Orange CS to be very friendly and efficient. Perhaps next time you should press *4* for English

That they make me subscribe to a contract I never contracted/accepted is not an issue?

That I had to lose an hour of my time to correct their mistake?

That if I did not pay attention I will have been forced to honor a contract I did not accept, sign?

That probably my only "solution" to contest would have been written letter + recorded letter? (cost + time + hope to find a clever staff)

That they blatantly lie on the waiting time to make them look good? (only 1 to 3 minutes waiting time, only 1 to 3 minutes waiting time, only 1 to 3 minutes waiting time, only 1 to 3 minutes waiting time, only 1 to 3 minutes waiting time, only 1 to 3 minutes waiting time, only 1 to 3 minutes waiting time, only 1 to 3 minutes waiting time)... for over 20 minutes each calls.

So maybe they should try to send me offers to new services every time, just in case I forget to cancel one?

To save yourself from any more stress, simply create an account on Orange.ch, link to your account and then submit your request/complaint through the mail system. You will definitely get a reply, and you won't have to deal with anyone over the phone or waste any more of your time. Life is too short to get worked up by a utility company.

Sooo I am a little bit late to this thread... but be aware that the insurance only covers "accidental loss" whatever they think that means (probably shattered by a meteorite, or by a stray bullet if you cross a war zone). If you just "lose" it eg forget it on a train or wherever, you're not covered. Theft is covered by your home insurance - so I really don't think there's a point to this insurance (other than fleecing the already overinsured Swiss customer).

Any lawyers on here?

I dropped my phone in the company car park yesterday without realising, it was later found and handed in, but unfortunately it had been run over and now the screen is cracked Does this fall under Accidental damage as defined by the Orange Relax T&Cs or would it be Negligence?

just tell them you dropped it - don't mention the car bit

I dropped my phone back in July and the screen shattered and I have Orangeinsurance. I called the helpline at the time and they could not help me as theysaid it was cosmetic and not damaged, they thought it was a scratch, whenactually the phone screen was shattered. I asked if I could send photos to themshowing the damaged, they agreed, I sent via email, 30 minutes later, they saidthis indeed was not cosmetic and covered under the insurance plan, I sent itoff the following day for repairs and they sent it back to me within say 5days.

I do not think you will have any problem at all given my recent experience, however if they say it is not cover and it is cosmetic, ask if you can sendpictures before they make decision.

Let us know how you get on.

My phone (and iPad/Pod Computer etc) is already covered by my household insurance. Yes, I claimed for a lost/stolen iPod and 2 new iPad screens. The Zurich paid the total cost within 7 days...

Thanks, but I thought there was a distinction between dropping (carelessness) and accidental e.g. falling off your bike and your phone flying out of your pocket.

I am not sure of the actual details but it seems to me (after talking with some staff at Orange a while ago) that if you damage the phone it is not covered. It is only covered if someone else i.e. knocks it out of you hand etc.

Before you declare it maybe drop by an Orange store and ask how the insurance REALLY works - what is covered and what is not. The wording/story you give will determine if they pay out or not.

Doesn't that then overlap with personal liability insurance i.e. Their insurance needs to pay out for the damage they caused you...

Yes. That is why the other person "can't be found".

What I understand is the insurance is extremely limited and does not cover ANYTHING you do.

Best to have a chat with the local store. They will explain how things really work - what can pass and what won't.

Don't you have to pay a deductible for that?
