Yay, I finally got the golden letter from Gemeindeamt today!
Another letter came from Stadt Zürich with a nice Einbürgerungsurkunde. Everything’s dated 20.02.2025. I called the Zivilstandsamt and they’ve already entered my citizenship into the registry, so I could book a biometrics appointment for getting passport/id for tomorrow!
Thanks everyone for your support and I wish the best of luck and speedy bureaucracy to everyone going through the process.
On the job change discussion, after SEM approval I changed job and gemeinde said i need to wait till after probation period at new job and send them a confirmation and only then will they proceed with the application further…
When it comes to job changes or job loss, providing some context would be much more helpful:
Mention your Gemeinde/Kanton, as requirements and interpretations can vary significantly across Switzerland.
Indicate whether it was a single-person or family application. In family applications, the total household income matters. If the spouse is still employed, their income is often sufficient to cover family expenses. In every case I’m aware of, single-income families have obtained their passport without encountering such complexities. Please continue sharing your experiences here.
Include details about the type of job and salary range (if possible). In some cases, an applicant’s RAV benefits may still be twice the average market wage, making them more eligible than others who are currently employed.
It’s not surprising that officials may question an applicant’s financial situation after job loss, especially for single applicants or those with a relatively low salary—similar to how banks assess financial stability before granting a loan.
This is in Zug. Applied as family but with single source. Financially it is not an issue as there is more enough savings in the bank account which they have received a statement of. It is the technicality that they seem to want to go by and stick to the rules. I dont mind it, it just delays the process by 3 more months.
Thanks for providing context. I see that as the main source of family income, losing or changing jobs can certainly be tricky. But I’m glad you sorted it out in time—I wonder what would have happened if you were still on RAV or relying on your savings.
got the Einbürgerungsentscheid by post on Wed Feb 26 (dated Feb 20, B-Post stamped Feb 21)
went to Zivilstandsamt the same day to ask them to enter my Swiss citizenship into the register only to find out that they already did (the day before it wasn’t)
booked an appointment at the Passbüro on Thu Feb 27
got a notification that a registered letter was on its way evening of Tue Mar 4
got woken up early by a postman on Wed Mar 5 who surprisingly had two letters for me, so I got the passport and the ID on the same day. Interestingly the notification about the second letter on its way was only sent at like 7 am on Wed.
I’m not sure if the option to allow depositing the letters without signature was enabled on those letters, as I took them from the postman in person. I know that it can be disabled for some kinds of letters (like court documents).
A notification email from [email protected] that the status has changed (only contained ‘Der Status Ihres Geschäftsfalls hat sich verändert.’), and a similar message in the online portal that I saw when I logged in.
I have started also my journey for the Ordinary Naturalization. Pray for me. Or better, cross fingers. Some additional info for ‘nonUK’ers’ (although it might apply) As I went to the Spanish Consulate to get some official papers several months ago, they reminded me of something interesting – once (and/or if) I get naturalized Swiss, I need to plead and request officially to the Spanish government the maintenance of my Spanish citizenship…otherwise, as they receive the information from the Swiss government of my naturalization, the Spanish will revoke my Spanish passport…
Well, I got the official form from the Consulate, which i have here on a red envelope in front of me (I’m very optimistic) and it reads… solicitud de conservación de la nacionalidad española… ’ en virtud del art. 24.1 del código civil, desea CONSERVAR la nacionalidad española, y con tal finalidad, presenta la siguiente documentación…’ etc etc .
There is even a note underneath, that reads (in Spanish) that “…if you don’t present the official request & documentation within 3 years from obtaining the Swiss nationality, you will automatically lose the Spanish one …”
Oh, you of course should request preserving your Spanish nationality when you become Swiss. I just meant that it’s not Switzerland who will be telling them that you’re now Swiss. It’s going to be you
