Ordinary Naturalisation in Switzerland

I’m afraid so. If you’re in Stadt Zurich, you should receive the invite by the end of the month.

Congrats @imranabcde! Since our status changed to Schlussprüfung two weeks before yours, your update already made me feel anxious! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: Maybe I should reach out to them for an update too!

@Silvano - Any news on your golden letter? I figure you’ve got to be really close at this stage.

Hi,
I applied for citizenship in Stadt Zürich and cleared Gemeinde level and currently it is at Prüfung Kanton stage. I am planning to move my son due to personal reasons to an international school in Zürich and was wondering if this would affect my application status in any way ? This decision was made after I cleared my interview and my kid is yet to start International school. Any insights on how to handle this would be much appreciated. Thank you. -M

No.

But if he’s not included in your application it may affect his later on because it’s not a school teaching a local language, so his school years probably won’t count double.

@Swissed Changing your son’s school to an international one should not affect your Zürich citizenship application at this stage, as long as you remain personally well-integrated and can explain the decision if it ever comes up.

We applied for all 3 of us and submitted the old public school document during geminde interview. We all cleared that stage of nr of qualifying years already.

yes in Schwyz they ask also RAV statements from the past 5 years, it is not forbidden to have them, but probably just looked at it as part of a whole application

Wow viva svp :joy:

My timeline in the City of Zurich:

:switzerland: :switzerland: :switzerland: :switzerland: :switzerland: :switzerland: :switzerland: :switzerland: :switzerland: :switzerland:

01 Ausfüllen
02 Einreichen (3 months)
03 Vorprüfung (3 months)
04 Erteilung Gemeindebürgerrecht (6 months)
05 Erteilung Kantonsbürgerrecht (3 months)
06 Erteilung Einbürgerungsbewilligung Bund (4 months)
07 Gratulation zum Schweizer Bürgerrecht (3.5 months)

About 22.5 months from submission to final approval. Everything was very simple but extremely stressful, although everything seems to be quite predictable. Only the SEM approval seems to be random in terms of duration.

I would like to thank everyone in this forum for the helpful advice that calmed me down during this long period.

If you’ve already cleared the Gemeinde level, it shouldn’t be an issue as that is where they would check the integration part.

Who needs to be informed by myself about the Swiss citizenship?

I suppose the following (?):

  • Employer
  • Any kind of insurance (health, legal, car, etc)
  • All banks included the one for the deposit of the apartment
  • Landlord of the apartment
  • Vehicle registration certificate
  • Changing the driving license to mention CH as country of origin
  • Internet/Telephone provider

Please let me know if any of these is wrong.

Does my employer have to inform AHV and my 2nd pillar pension fund or do I have to inform them myself?

potentially your own government… if you want to maintain your own citizenship (that’s country dependent)

I would add to your list : finding out your additional obligations as a Swiss :

  • national military service obligations (if male and young)
  • obligation regarding registering with the Swiss embassy, if you ever move abroad
  • cantonal requirements (eg Bern) to deposit a Heimatschein/Acte d’origine to the town hall (just like the Swiss do). A good idea anyway to order the document for the civil status anyway for future use.

A few days ago my wife applied for the swiss citizenship, one year after me and our son have been naturalized. We did it ourselves because back then my wife was not for 10 years in Switzerland and we wanted to apply with the old naturalization law.

Anyway, she is going through the ordinary naturalization in the city of Zurich since we were married before I was naturalized.

The question I have is the following. She is working as self employed but only part time and hence her income is not that high. This is due to the fact that she is managing most of the household activities. Combined our family income is enough to live in Switzerland all of us and we get no support from the state.

Do you think that since she is not making enough to live in Switzerland as if she would be living alone could be an issue? Does anyone having similar experience of his/her partner applying alone while not working full time? Thanks for your feedback.

As long as your family situation does not change and you all are self sufficient (not dependent on the state), i think you will be fine. there are many single income families that are looked at positively. in your case, part time work only reflects positively on you all, since your wife’s priority is family over job. it’s perfectly normal now for a spouse to work part time.

your wife has clearly demonstrated that she can and is willing to work - full time or part time

if her income were to become an issue, if and when she lived alone, it would be handled differently, then and when the situation arose. There are processes in place for that …

i think you will be fine …

All the best!

Do you get a letter from SEM after status changed to Schlussprüfung? Thanks!

For me, in ZH, no letter, but an alert by email from zhservices, which I registered for at the time of application.. if you applied online, you should be able to see your status, if you sign in to your application, although I noticed at least one applicant who never had this status

Thank you, my status just changed to Schlussprüfung. What’s next? Will I just get the “golden letter” in the next 3-4 months or they will ask if we have situation change, jobs, childbirth etc?
