Ordinary Naturalisation in Switzerland

First of all congratulations on your progress, could just tell me how much time it took for you with the SEM ?

Thanks in advance

Thank you. I have to say it’s a lot faster than I expected so I wonder if it’s an approval or not. It’s about 6 weeks.

If I am not mistaken, SchlussprĂźfung means it has passed the federal stage and been handed back to the Kanton. Another 3.5 months would be pretty normal. 6 weeks for the federal stage? Do my eyes deceive me? Well done, that must be some kind of record

My file sat with the SEM for about 4.5 months. I got to the final stage about 2 months ago so hopefully, I should be done in about 1-1.5 months.

After waiting for 3 weeks, I applied for ID and Passport. Three days later, they arrived together with two different registered letters. I am a happy Swiss :switzerland: !

I guess if you are married then your income is assessed together since that is how you pay your taxes.

Hi Guys, I applied for ordinary naturalisation back in May (Kanton Zurich), but my status is still “submitted” (I crossed the 4 months already - while I see many here have the vorprüfung status within ca 2 - 2.5 months. I checked the application online and the status never changed. Anyone been in same situation?

I received the final written approval today… although my online status remains at Schlussprüfung. @tdbrock I switched to Schlussprüfung about 3 weeks before you, so if you don’t have it already, shouldn’t be long

Congratulations! I’m still waiting at the moment. Hopefully, my approval will come shortly. Thanks for the heads up though.

Everything slows down over the summer holidays, so you probably have a longer wait because of the time of year you submitted.

Congrats! How long did it take from submission to the final approval?

Thanks! I gor a notification today that it moved to in vorprĂźfung.. took almost double of the period in comparison to the lads here reporting their timeline

23 months and change, quite relieved

Hi all, my situation is a little specific and I’d like some advice before I submit my naturalisation request. I have an apartment in Zurich but over the last year or two I sublet it for significant stretches of time as I was traveling. I’m now wondering whether that might be flagged and cause issues during the process: I did respect the legal 6-month period for residency but perhaps the conditions for naturalisation are more stringent? How would you handle this? Any insight appreciated!

Hi, If you sublet your flat and the tenant is registered the Gemeinde will have their data as well, maybe you are seen as flat mates?

My advice is to speak directly with the Gemeinde and see what they tell you, in any case if you are self employed or in any case have an employment contract that requires you to travel for a high percentage of your time it shouldn’t be a problem for them  best of luck.

Hi, if you are nervous about calling/emailing the officials directly l, go to Einbßrgerung | Kanton Zßrich and at the bottom of the page there is a section Merkblätter & Downloads and look at the
Handbuch Einbürgerungen: Neues Recht. If your German isn’t up to it, upload to chat gpt, Google translate etc. there is a lot of detail in there and it may cover this scenario.. even if you are not in ZH, maybe be a good starting point. All the best

Finally able to share the happy news… applied in Mid August 2024 in Zug, Zug, and this week I was in the system and ready to make my passport appointment. Very happy! Good luck to everyone!

Zug is really fast! congrats

compared to others, it does seem like it is, indeed… but… felt pretty slow.. and agonizing.. living day to day opening the post box…
