You can request a C permit after 2 years on a B permit if you previously held a C permit for over 10 years, left the country and returned after less than 2 years. It is not a right and it will be examined whether the departure from Switzerland was considered as definitive (e.g. second pillar cash out, ties kept in Switzerland etc).
Hey, this part in the law. Long-term residence permit, AKA C type permit, is usually needed to buy a gun. But, there is the alternative for B permit that HIAO mentioned: get a permit from canton to buy a gun. I wouldn’t be surprised if a club has as regulation “only people allowed to buy a gun”. This minimizes liability issues.
Back to OP’s issue: get the permit to buy a gun from canton.
The English version is unfortunately incorrect/wrong. Correct is: Need a confirmation from their country of residence (if not a Swiss resident) Art. 6b Abs 1 Weapons Act Need a confirmation from their country of citizenship (if a Swiss resident w/o permit C) Art. 6a Abs 2 Weapons Act
Thanks for all the answers. Yes, I got to know these law rules through exchange with shooting club in Kloten. Even if you only want to rent a pistol, they still require that you own the license.
And to get the license back in my home country, I would need to be a registered resident there. So it's an impasse.
Come join ES5 - drop me a PM with your mobile and I'll add you to the whatsapp group.
We go shooting in SSG (zurich) once a month, bruning about 2-3 times a year, and then occasionally in other ranges.
Your permit is irrelevant - we've been shooting with tourists joining us from abroad.
Oh yeah - best of all, as we haven't actually finally signed the constitution for the verein or anything else really, it;s free You just pay entry to the range + ammo
EDIT: Forgot to say - ES5 is the English speaking shooting society; based in Zurich...
What license? Switzerland has to major kind of gun permits. 1) The carry permit, which is hard to get and not needed to own, transport to the range, or shoot a gun. 2) The acquisition permit which allows you to acquire up to three specific guns at a time within six months, to acquire more guns you would need a new, additional permit.
There are other kind of permits, but most importantly there is no a gun owner permit!
So, I am confused what kind of "license" this shooting club request. A hunting license maybe? Anyway, no license is needed to shoot a gun in a range.
Do get a Swiss acquisition permit you do not need a license from your home country, you only need the permission from your home country to acquire a gun in Switzerland. Its more or less just an other rubber stamp on your application.
By any chance, would you know if there is an english-speaking club anywhere in the west of Switzerland? Would love to join, but with ZH being over a two hour drive it is somewhat less practical.
