Hi, I'm bringing my dog to live here with me next week on Tuesday.
I already did all the documentation to bring from Brazil.
But I have a holiday plan to 12th of May, to Italy.
And I saw at FSVO that is required the Pet Passport from Switzerland.
I have a chance to do this document in 1 week?
How can I find a list of Vet's that are allowed to ask this?
Thank you very much.
I don't want to leave the dog in a hotel so soon after the change.
I will register my dog at Buchs SG website the same date the dog arrive.
All vets can issue the passport and they can give it you on the spot in a normal appointment. They also need to register him in the Swiss database AMICUS.
I am not sure how passport issue works, when the dog has already had it's rabies vaccine elsewhere though - I don't know if this will cause you any issues/delays.
The vet will do the pet passport on the spot. You just need to make an appointment at a vet near to where you’ll be living and they’ll do one for you.
Depends very much on what vaccinations you have.
I know this is not your question- but taking the dog away so soon after such a traumatic experience, is truly not a good idea! Your pet needs to be registered with all the necessary documents, at your Gemeinde/Commune before Amicus, and pay any fees due.
How are you travelling to Italy? If by car, the chances of anyone checking are incredibly slim. Has literally never happened to me in 20 yrs of travelling through the border several times a year.
When you arrive go to the Commune in Buchs with the vaccination booklet of your pet and sign up as a pet owner. That will trigger the necessary items. The vet is then able to match the dog to you in the Amicus system.
Important is the rabies vaccination but I am assuming that was part of your import requirements anyway so no worries.
And one question - why do you need a pet passport from CH? We always had pets from DE and Italy and just kept their original passports - might be different from Brazil but just wondering as essentially you need to show the vaccinations and those are in your original booklet.
Yes, I also believe no one will take a look at the border.
In Brazil we don't have passport for PETs.
Thank you everybody for the answers.
I will do the register at Gemeinde personally instead of online, to see if they need any other documents.
And right the way get an appointment with a Vet in the city to do the Passport.
As the others have said, as soon as you arrive go to the vet, mine will give you a CH Pet Passport the same day.
Then go to the Gemeinde, get the registration ball rolling. My Gemeinde wants a copy of the liability insurance (Privathaftpflicht) policy to compete the registration, as well as the AMICUS letter - so that takes longer out here. YMMV, not every Gemeinde requires these in order to register. Check your Gemeinde website or call to verify.
One reason you want the AMICUS registration done before your trip is if, doG forbid, your pup got loose while you were traveling. If your AMICUS registration is done, anyone finding your pup will be able to contact you.
Do you need recommendations for a vet out your way?
Please, if you can share a Vet recommendation would be nice.
I'm located in Buchs SG but I can travel if needed.
Here’s a list of area vet practices, compiled by a local animal welfare group, Tierschutzverein Sagans u. Werdenberg:
https://tierschutzbuchssargans.ch/do…rer_region.pdf
I’m not in the area, so I can’t give a personal recommendation, but a colleague goes to Tierarztpraxis Kreuzberg in Gams (contact details on that list) and is happy.
Hopefully someone in the area will be along with a personal recommendation.
The registration at our Commune for our recently arrived rescue from Djerba was quick, because we already have a personal Amicus number- you have one for life, for all the dogs you have in a lifetime. We then went to the vet to get the passport checked, the vaccines, and the microchip- and they went onto the Amicus site and registered her with our exisiting account- the vet knows us well so was happy to do this for us. The person at the Commune/Gemeinde is our neighbour and friend and knows the full story.
As a new owner not yet registered with Amicus, it may take longer and may not be so quick and easy, especially coming from outside Europe, and depending on breed.
A rabies vaccination is a must for the passport. There is a delay between getting the vaccination and it's validity on the passport so I hope you got the vaccination in Brazil
He wouldn’t be able to fly the dog over without it!
Took us 2 days for a new Amicus registration. It was very quick.
I confirm! It cost me CHF 28.
My Swiss vet said that here in Switzerland they do not require rabies vaccination because they have dealt with the problem in general. This news should be verified. My pets are vaccinated because where I go with them, rabies vaccination is required.
It's not required if the dog never leaves Switzerland. But for importing the dog into Switzerland, or travelling outside of Switzerland with the dog, it is required.
You can check on the Swiss Veterinarian website what are the re-entry requirements if you travel outside of Switzerland.

Hello, hope you are well If you want to take your dog back please promptly visit the FSVO website to find authorized veterinarians who can issue a Pet Passport. Make sure to schedule an appointment without delay. After arriving in Buchs SG, register your dog on their website. Prioritize your dog's comfort before your trip to Italy.
Thank-you.
Hi,
Is the pet passport sufficient? Do i need to also carry along other paperwork such as vaccination certificates just in case?
Thanks.
