Photo printing recommendations

I have a bunch of photos on my phone from our recent holiday and want to make a scrapbook with my kids. Anyone recommend an low hassle and cheap service to print these out into small photos for the book. Probably 50-100 photos to be printed.

I was after a way I could just dump the files and get a package sent to me. Also still traumatized by: You've been Switzerlanded (orig. "Holy mother of god [Film developing cost]") so asking for recommendations so I don’t get a 500 CHF invoice :stuck_out_tongue:

I used to use this place Snapfish | Personalized Gifts, Cards, Home Decor, Photo Books & More

Haven’t used it for years but were good for prints and other photo printing stuff.

Thinking about it, you can also create an online album with space for text and captions which they will print as a book and send to you. We’ve done this with a few big family trips. Nice keepsake.

I can recommend ifolor and have used them a few times:

We’ve been happy with ifolor as well.

They will even put it into the book for you.

I remember using something in the past which could put things in a book, but remember it was quite time-consuming.

I thought doing it manually would anyway be a fun activity for the kids.

@Phil_MCR, I absolutely second your idea of manual sorting and talking about memories with the kids! Long ago I inherited all the family pictures back to tin types. I bought a nice leather-bound book for each of my sibs, and we sorted through the pictures, selecting which ones were special to each person and putting them into the books. Tears, laughter, good times…they are still treasured.

I’ve done albums to give as gifts and it is incredibly time consuming.

Getting the photos printed out and sorting through them with the kids will also be incredibly time consuming but it is something that you can all do together and take your time over.

Has anyone any recommendations for development of films or transparencies? Phil mentioning films reminded me I have a slide film in my Minolta from my last trip to Paris, 10 years ago now. Happy days!

At the time I was using Studio 13 in Zurich and German chemist shops which was great fun! French or German! I still have a medium format Pentacon Six which was always good for a laugh, and transparencies scanned nicely on any modern scanner. That would be a cool toy for big and small kids! Also multiple exposures are fun for kids. Shoot 5 photos on one frame!

After the expensive debacle, I started sending my film to the UK to https://metroimaging.co.uk/ not sure if post-Brexit there are more complications.

They also have high quality drum scanners.

There’s quite likely to be a lot of image degradation and colour shifting after a year or so.
Ten years may be asking too much.
Slide films are much worse than negative films for this.

I know this from experience.

Cross processing it might be something to think about.
