You've been Switzerlanded (orig. "Holy mother of god [Film developing cost]")

Just paid for developing of a roll of film imcl 36 prints. Bill came to 117 chfs!

As i needed to catch my train, i just paid and went. I’m going to pass out now. Can somebody tell me if this is normal so that i can check when i come to. thanks.

hehehe you got Switzerlanded.

For your sake I hope you like the photos.

I do have to thank you for that though as I've been toying with the idea of a cheap film SLR. Thanks to you I now know that the cost of developing and prints is more than the camera would cost.

If only they did a holga with an affordable digital back option. Ah well.

That is in line with what I paid in Basel for the one and only film I had developed here several years ago. Instead of remortgaging the house, I decided to go digital after that.

oh -- I thought this was another Praying thread.

Prices here are crazy -- I send everything in a giant batch to my local photo place in the US and pick them all up at once. Usually I'll get 250-400 photos -- bill is usually $150 or so. The fun part is putting them in order and into the books

Tut Tut Tut, Guys, c'mon!

You are in Switzerland. You have a great pay check and safety in the street, you should be happy and thanful for it.

(I am kidding! This is after I fainted for your behalf)

5 to 10 years ago I used to pay 0.65 up to 1.0 chf per photo (development + printing). So i guess that the price is aligned with the huge costs they have to maintain such systems given the low number of people using digital imaging.

PS: never ever pay for a service in CH when in a hurry to catch a train. Always ask price before giving order for service. My rules to avoid surprises.

Yeah, this happened just a few days ago to me as well, plus got the usual cranky attitude and was asked to come back in 20 min to start proceed my order, since he needs those 20mins to change the roll for a smaller size. 20min to change the roll? He was drunk, too, and probably needed those 20min to have a smoke. My 3 year old kept asking why the store smells like dirt, if he likes playing in the sand pit or what, thankgod he does not speak Czech. We were charged almost 2fr a photo. I think I am never going back there again, sad since it is in our street. My friend told me it is so much better to have it done in the UK at Kodak online service, or I will do it in Prague. Or, get my own photo printer. This is rediculous, makes me laugh at myself for going back there yet again...Grrrrrrrrrrrr

Real film? 117 chuffs?

Did it come with a free digital camera?

You should trademark this!

To be expected. Film developers are free to roam the mountains of Switzerland and are very expensive to take care of and feed.

Amazing price Especially when considering that you can get standard prints for about 9 Rappen/piece.

The worst thing is that i'd already handed in my 2 rolls of MF slide film for development before collecting the 35mm roll. God knows how much they will cost.

The joke is i saw a fully automated development lab for around 1500 quid on ebay. I ignored thinking it wasn't worth it for the low volumes. Little did i know it could pay back after a couple dozen rolls.

What shop was this?

Price definitely isn't normal.

For future reference, ifolor.ch is an excellent mailorder photo service that is substantially cheaper than any local shop. Developing and printing photos from a 36-exposure colour film would have set you back around 30 CHF:

6.85 CHF to develop one film

~18.- CHF to print the photos (0.49 CHF per 10x15cm print)

4.90 CHF shipping

The print quality from film is excellent. (Or at least is was when I last used them to print from film, which was so long ago the company had a different name. )

Hope this helps.

Heather

My husband who loves vintage film cameras bought a nice liitle Rollei yesterday at a bargain price - after reading your film developing costs - I can see why

Anyone else see it?

That's a rip off, you should pay 50 chf top for this

Please give the following information :

- type / trademark of film
