Reporting a dangerous driver - anyone done it?

I'm just wondering because I was overtaken today by a driver who then raced through a 50 zone at a speed recorded at 86kph (there's a "self-control" there).

I'm in the process of reporting it - the police told me I should have called them at the time.....but are very interested in me making a statement and getting the video from my onboard camera.

Speeding in town is something I frown upon and speeding like a lunatic though a residential area is just plain stupid. I'd estimate a top speed of 100-110 as she entered the 50 zone.

I'll post back when I have spoken with the police.....they've replied to my email and recommend the following:

We invite you to submit a written complaint directly to the section of the circulation, Legal Office, Via Ala Munda, 6528 Camorino

So it seems you can submit complaints about other drivers to the local driving licence authority and not the police......I'll have to check when those buggers are open

I reckon unless you have a calibrated speed camera on your dashboard you're on a hiding to nothing and it's all supposition anyway....their word against yours.

Presumably the 86 came from the display on the control.

It's probably not going to go to court, but a word from the bobbies should work wonders.

My camera has a GPS-based speedo which records the time and location with video.

It shows me slowing from 72kph as I enter the 50 zone and the car disappearing quickly.

I think that and my statement will be enough for someone to at least change their ways. I'm sure they will be contacted and the video is pretty damning. I wish I had been running it in 1080p and not 720p

That's all fine and well, but once again unless it's calibrated by an approved and authorised body....it's going nowhere....other than a 'word in your ear madam'!

if that saves a kitten then.....

plus speeding is an absolute offence so 51 is over the limit and I was doing 56 in the 50 zone myself

I hope you're prepared for your ticket.

I am not sure that video evidence is even admissible as evidence in court, unless the driver accepts he was speeding.

If you run the camera in 1080p do you actually get anymore resolution? I suspect that the resolution of the optical system plus heavy compression is way lower than 1920 x 1080. For example the Canon 5DMK II has a 1080 video mode, however the BBC says the resolution is such that it's only acceptable for SD television. The pictures however look pretty good.

Do you know if it is possible to submit a mass complaint for cars with a French registration, Audi drivers, women, cars with an Aargau plate, that bloke the other day that drove like an arse, caravans and people over 50?

And tail-gating BMW drivers (all BMW drivers)...

From the same evidence that they won't accept for the other driver?

I think it will scale up to 1080p and then it's down to the detail recorded and the bitrate. 12.5Mbps is the rate IIRC.

Belgians. Don't forget the Belgians!!

I'm so sorry please accept my online apologies or sent PM. Can I have a video now

I wondered where my wife got to.

Was that shortly after you requested to get amorous??

here the video

It happened to a friend of mine but in Germany. He was reported by 2 people for "dangerous overtaking" and the police investigated, visiting him at his address. I found it hard to believe that 2 independent people reported the same incident but he did get some kind of fine as a result. Of course he maintained he was innocent.

That looks like atypical morning commute on the south circular....when its not gridlock! :-)

I was thinking about getting a dashboard camera. What do you have and what is recommended/advised?

Youtube, technomoan the guy has lots of detailed test vids. Check there for honest reviews

I have a Blackvue DR500GW-HD. Technomoan actually does a good review of this.
