I was always apalled by the amount of prostitutes on Sihl quai. a 5 minute walk from my home and I am witness to countless examples of human trafiking. I'm sad for the girls, they have a sad story. This past winter I took a walk on the evening after the coldest night of the year. There was ankle deep snow on the ground, and snow blowing around and it was just really cold. But there were those girls in skinny jeans or fishnets and high healed shoes, most of them didn't even have a jacket on, and those that did couldnt have kept them very warm. The bitter reality is that if one of those women froze to death she wouldnt even become a statstic, she would simply dissapear.
But a report I saw last night on TeleZüri really grossed me out. I never stopped to consider where these ladies go the bathroom, but now I know. They poop in the residential areas, wherever they can. (Incidentaly this is also where they preform their services). This means certain homeowners have to clean away the poop and toilet paper up to 5 times a day from their front yards.
Also something I never thought I would ever have to picture in my mind, and I condemn you for that... but oddly enough it makes sense, it's not as though there's be special prozzy portaloos set up for emergencies. Eurgh. Poor women though, must be a tough life.
They should make brothels completely legal with daily inspections. And make all other prostitution illegal, i.e. prosecute the customers. This works in Sweden.
Just so we're clear, is this a complaint about defecation "in my front yard" as the thread title suggests, or in the front yard of some random homeowner appearing in a TeleZüri documentary?
If it is your front yard, then simply as a practical measure I suggest leaving a stash of Robidog bags out with a note for people to help themselves.
Im not going to lie....the first prostitute I saw on that cold winter night I wanted to take home and give her some tea, but thankfully i didnt. Opening my home to these people will not solve the problem, and my kindness would no doubt be exploited. If only the demand for this kind of thing would go down....A solution may be more controlled brothels, with all the facilities and heavy fines for the johns that pick up the illegel prostitutes.
Since the issue has been aired on telly/news and the problem is now known, would it not help going to the Police and making a complaint ensuring that your premises or the vicinity is known as a targeted location?
This is the side of prostitution they never talk about.
There are a bunch of parts of town where there simply are no places to take care of business (not the prostituting business, the other kind) late at night. I have full sympathy for those girls who have no other option but to find a dark corner someplace.
I'm actually surprised that there aren't that many public bathrooms around the city, but maybe Zurich isn't big enough to justify having so many extra toilets around.
Not at all. Unfortunately all the literature and that video are in german.
Armed police patrol the area for parking violations . The ignore the prostitution. This problem has been aired many times in different variations. It can be found in the news a couple times a month and was in the papers almost daily for a 3 week period last summer. Nothing has changed.
The police are well aware of it, but what can they do really ? Quite a few things that are illegal on paper aren't, or are only rarely prosecuted. Take smoking weed for example, technically illegal but in practice very liberal.
OK, white paper sandwich bags instead of Robidog ones then. The suggestion is a serious one though. Practical and (in some small measure) dignity-restoring, plus it's something you can do yourself* instead of wringing your hands waiting for the city to Do Something.
