Sihl Quai Prostitutes pooping in somebody's front yard.

Oh I see. We're back to the Swiss Prostitution scene. Lovely.

Are we talking about the same Sihlquai? The one which is a five minutes walk from HB where there are plenty of toiltes (and I believe even showers, but I never had a need for those, so I am not sure). I guess it is simply to inconvenient to walk there and back (besides the pricing of public toilets here).

Honestly, hygiene topics are simply the PC arguments of the politicians in the article to say "we do not want them here". I can fully understand that, I would not want them either in my neighbourhood, but like 20mins reported "He is afraid that especially younger residents might move away because of the noise disturbance"... Noise?! Next to a heavily used road? Through pooping or by giving a blow job?

I hear you.

I just know if this was happening in my front yard or garden, I'd take the issue very personally and lose my temper. It's absolutely disgusting. Sure the poor girls are victimized and are in a terrible situation but that doesn't allow them to poop on my premises.

The only solution I know is to make a formal complaint, especially regarding my premises and hope that something is done about it. From past experience I believe that the more you keep pushing and fighting, something will come out of it, especially when dealing with the authorities.

I know you're upset about the issue and I would be too. And I know you must be doing your best to stop this, don't let my post make you think otherwise.

Wish you the best!

charge them all...pimps double...you would do something nice for the ladies and squeeze the pimps...once the girls get to know you and like you you can steal them all and set-up a nice decent place where they can do their business without the abuse and bad conditions....everyone is happy...well...pimps not so much

really? and whats the sensible reason for ignoring human rights transgressions, human traffiking and illegal prostitution?

uh-huh.....are you serious? Smoking weed and human traffiking aren't even apples and oranges! Its like........watermellons and molten tar! (smoking weed is the watermellons)

Newsflash - brothels are legal in Switzerland.

First of all, it's not illegal. Actually Sihlquai has been zoned exactly for that. However the number of prostitutes has risen dramatically since the entry of Switzerland into Schengen...

Human trafficking is a serious problem, but what has it to do with port-a-loos? I guess if it was that easy to prevent or stop it from happening, it would be done...

Thirdly, would you like to go to a toilet where you just see a John and his lady of the night get out of? You want to see what Zurich looked like in the eighties/nineties with the Platzspitz...? There are plenty of reasons...

probably because providing the facilities to facilitate a trade will only increase the trade?

How do you know it's illegal?

You can march around the toilets advertising its proper use all you want, I still fear the ladies are not concerned about their bowel movements as much as having some undisturbed little enclosed cubicle to run their business..It would probably only attract more of this business into the area.

you're takingthe topic lightly, and I wont reprimand you for it. But some people could take you seriously and the idea of "squeezing" the pimps in this case is very unrealistic. Doesnt happen.

I believe you are a bit over the top here: I had to look up what Human_trafficking exactly means and as bad as these girls live, they are not slaves: The police does not arrest them for a simple reason: According to the articles you posted, most of them are from the Eastern EU states, so they are not illegally here anymore since Switzerland joined the Schengen treaty. I fully agree that this is the bad low end of prostitution (which comes with a whole hand full of ethical questions), but I have seen the police being very active in Zurich and if they would be really forced by pimps, I am sure they would be active.

Umm, isn't this basically what is happening already? At least in theory.

well, it seems that most tourist guides forget to mention that Zurich has a red light district...

I read that a lot of them come over on buses specifically to ply their trade, then go home again after a few weeks/months, so I don't think it's the same as the UK where many are trafikked over and then fed heroin to keep them docile while they are used and abused ad infinitum until either they escape, are rescued, or simply die.

There was a very, very good, and very, very harrowing drama on BBC a while back called Sex Traffic... I highly suggest you download and watch it, though be prepared to get upset because it doesn't pull any punches http://www.channel4.com/programmes/sex-traffic

Well.... it's not quite Amsterdam now, is it... also, why on earth would you put that in the tourist guide?

This is all hypthetical and based on very little grounds. The idea that it would attract more of this business is highly unlikely. First of all, these prostitutes aren't willing prostitutes, there are many articles online (sadly most of which are german) explaining how this business is built up. Basically these women are scared not only for their own lives, but also those of their families back home. The pimps move the women around from city to city all over europe so the women are never in the same place for more than a week. This way they don't have a chance to make connections, orient themselves and help themselves in any way. The pimps don't care where the women ****. If there were port-a-potties, they would not place more women in the area. They place as mayn women as they think they can sell and then some. I have to assume you haven't seen it first hand. There is almost literally a woman per meter all the way from Platspitz to Dammweg.

I'm not saying I want to see port-a-potties put up, but I think its more humane than pretending the problem doesn't exist.

There are many bars along Langstrasse and that general area that used to be (until a couple of years ago) brothels or strip bars of some form or another. Now they are just fashionable places to hand out. Rather than trying to cover up the past many of these bars are actively marketing it and intentionally leaving some of the decorations and furniture and even the names are in many cases left unchanged. Some of these places are highly succesful. So I wouldn't agree that in terms of tourism and marketing nothing is being done.

On the contrary, it's actually a clever move by the city to bring "normal" people into this area making it busier and safer and this dilutes what remains of the local sex trade.

Something like this should help with the issue then... set it up in that same discrete corner they make use of anyhow. Not a perfect solution BUT will help make it just a tad less gross and more dignified without providing an enclosed space for more dangerous things to take place.

You're right. there are the ones that come to ply their trade willing and then go home and there are the ones who are traffiked just like the ones you mention in the UK. I am going to jump to the conclussion and say that the ones who are too scared to walk to the public loo at platspitz and stand out in fishnets at -10 in a blizzard belong to the latter category. Seems to make sence to me.
