There is one place (i think on Müllerstr) where there is a toddler's playgroup right next to a brothel. The brothel has pictures of horses in the windows and if you squint in the right way they turn into nude women, but little kids probably don't see that. We were passing there once and all the little kids were looking at the horses and saying "how sweet" etc while the teacher was frantically trying to get them to move on.
Or they might as well be the ones who can earn here during a week much more than in a lower job at home in months... I am not saying that they are not forced, but maybe force themselves for some very real economic problems: Hungary is for example one of the EU countries that has been hit very hard by the economic crisis and some people might not want to loose their house or even need to feed the entire family after unemployment struck. You do not get 70% of your salary for years there as you do here... Here are some reference salaries before the downturn.
If you do this **** work to literally feed your family, you might very well be motivated to freeze your ass off. As sad as it is.
There are more public toilets in Zürich than most other places I've been. There are fewer per area/per person in London and often they charge.
There are associations that help prostitutes. In Geneva it's Aspasie . I am almost sure that Zürich has also this type of associations. If you really want to help them, I suggest that you contact one of the associations in Zürich, explain your issue and try to find out a solution together. They know the prostitutes, their problems and this "business". Best advice would come from these association as they are on the field.

If the best way to nail a pimp is over a parking offence then I'm all in favour of drastically increasing parking penalties in such areas. Honestly, how many honest decent people park their cars between prostitutes at that time of night (and illegally at that)? I bet at least 90% are either pimps or johns.

When I was living in Niederdorf we had one who would regularly occupy my doorway and when I once approachd her as politely as I could she responded with the greatest arsenal of swearwords I ever came across. She must have been made of pure bile all the way up from her toes to her ears.

Sorry to digress a little but to say that the prostitutes along Sihlquai are trafficked is inaccurate.
It is a hard life and I feel sorry for them having to do their business in someones front yard but if they are truly trafficked, you can be sure that there is a pimp hiding not too far away, should any customers decide to be cheeky in bargaining the price. And I am sure these pimps will also take care of their toilet needs.
