Skimmed Milk

The low-fat scene in Switzerland has much improved since 1999 when I first got here. Migros makes a whole line of low-fat products called "Léger" and before that they had the Slimline products.

Coop has Weight Watcher products, including a mini single serving of fondue! It is not bad, but I prefer the Léger one from Migros! I recommend souping it up with a shot of cognac and adding crushed garlic for maximal satisfaction!

Thank you , will try that

Good Afternoon.

Well to tell you the truth I was a big fan of Semi skimmed when I was living in England, but since being here I have found that The Heidiland milk from Migro (with light blue top) is the best around. I must I am quite fussy when it comes to milk. To tell you the truth I havent look at the Fat content!!!

Paul

Its 2.7% of fat if I looked at the same one

Thanks, That makes me feel a bit better!!! So what is the fat content of Semi Skimmed???? Have no clue!!

Its 2% of fat, however everything that is under 3% of fat doesnt do any harm at all )))

Slimline skimmed milk is 0.05% fat!

Weight Watchers makes 3 kinds of skimmed milk. The one I'm currently drinking (fortified with Omega 3) is 0.5% fat.

Carrie,

I think we should open a topic about healthy food I will definately try weight watchers milk when I move to Basel Never heard of a milk that has 0.05% of fat. Simple skimmed milk has got about 1% and 0.3g of fat. Maybe you mean grams?

the irony of the development of this thread today with this news link in the RSS feed from Swissinfo is not lost on me......

Aww, shucks! I did make a mistake!

Slimline skimmed milk has 0.05g of fat per 100 mL, but that works out to being 0% fat!

In the USA, if something is less than 0.5% fat, they are allowed to call it fat free. Must work the same way here.

I try to stay informed on what is healthy. Then I try to LIKE what is healthy! Let's start a thread, no prob!

Time to drink up, everyone! Support dairy farmers no matter what kind of milk you drink!

Still very good, much less then in simple skimmed milk. Im different, I am always informed whats healthy, then I start eating whats healthy and then I start enjoying whats not healthy even more!!!!

and after all that I still haven't bought any skimmed milk. My poor waistline.

Food for thought:

How many Swiss people do you see that are morbidly obese? And how many diet/fat-free products are there in the shops?

Now lets do the same for the US?

Nuff said.

If you drink skimmed milk because you prefer the taste, ok. But I don't really believe in a low-fat diet being the be-all and end-all of dieting, especially as there is quite a bit of research that suggests its the insulin that does it and not the fat...

For the lactose-intolerant among you, Coop has brought out the Feel Free range, it includes milk, yoghurt, biscuits and quite a few other things that tend to have lactose in them.

However, I have never heard of A2 milk.

I dont agree with you. I think you understand low fat diet statement literally, like most people do. Its actually saturated fats that you count, that increase cholesterol, heart diseases and weight gain. There are healthy fats you can eat (fatty acids) wich can be found in nuts, avocados and fish and they are very high in so called fat. This has already been proved through resaerch, not suggested

Sadly, I think that same theory can be applied to most western countries. Same goes for Australia. People are sold a dream, sadly they are silly enough to buy it. Walking around the city is damn near embarassing sometimes. Deep fried rubbish in one hand, diet coke in the other; what are these people thinking?

BTW; some info on A2 milk; it has a different type/level of caseivn, the active protein in milk, which is more easily digested by the body.

That's what I'm saying, eating low fat will not necessarily make you stay slim, indeed, the contrary is very possibly the case. If you do manage, it's usually a bit of a battle. I agree that a diet with healthy fats is the way to go but I tend to get rather pissy at low-fat usually meaning artificially sweetened and/or tasting like it's made with cardboard.

But surely skimmed milk doesnt fit into this slot. It is milk with all the fat skimmed off. I dont expect to it to make me slim, a healthy diet and lots of exercise might do that. But to remove all fat from a product without over processing can't be that bad?

Eating low fat will make you thin all the time, because the food that has high intake of fatty acids dont metabolise into fat. Sugary food will still be high in fat ( biscuits, chocolate, ice cream etc), so if you follow the low fat diet you will automatically reduce sugar intake as well.

Well I find it ruins the taste but then as I've stated before, I'm half Swiss. Can't drink full fat milk either though. What I really miss is the semi-skimmed milk the milkman brings to my Grandad in the Northeast of England, yummy!
