Hilarious!!! He didn’t really think it through, did he?
(though what can I say, I’d like a little MX5 too!
)
I’ll take the Vizla!
I guess (s)he’ll need an adequate car…I wonder where will a Vizsla sit comfortably… ![]()
I‘ll ask a friend, he has 2 ![]()
But discussing dogs is OK for you on this thread?
Haha, I am curious - they’re high-maintenance dogs!! ![]()
Sorry Tom, I promise I won’t mention dogs anymore but I thought/think we could (have) use(d) this topic to chill a bit…![]()
Or maybe, just maybe, they can only afford them at that age?
I understand that for some people expensive purchases is conspicuous spending to exhibit status or whatever, but some people genuinely enjoy the product and the experiences it provides.
And it ain’t just men…just sayin’…
Much more frequently within this group though. Just saying.
I’m not talking only about the price here, I was just noticing the type of cars they bought didn’t really fit their life style but then I can be mean sometimes. Of course, each to their own etc.
You too are right.
I would say there’s a link between some types of people and the cars they choose, but odds are they will still drive in a certain way regardless of vehicle. You could put me behind the wheel of a BMW and I’m not going to turn into an a-hole driver. I suspect you could put this kid who wrecked the BMW behind the wheel of an old Skoda and he will still behave like a numpty. ![]()
Agreed. my wording was sloppy.
Just like most written news reports describe a “car” driving into a “cyclist” rather than a “driver” driving his car in to a “cyclist” which seems to paint the incident in a completely different light.
But then reporting is never unbiased.
So you’d also agree then that if a cyclist is behaving in an “entitled way” (whatever that means), he’s still going to do it if he swaps his Lycra for jeans and a plaid shirt?
Absolutely. I read reports all the time (with or without cyclist involvement) that imply the car lost control. No, the driver lost control, for whatever reason.
Leopards don’t change their spots, as the saying goes. ![]()
Jerks are jerks, whether in a car, on a bicycle, at a sports match, in a pub or on a random internet forum.
I called you out on this on the other thread about vulnerable road users as whilst it is true what you say, statistically, a “jerk” in a high-performance BMW or an SUV is going to cause a lot more injuries and deaths than a cyclist and a cyclist is far more likely to end up dead or injured in a collision with a car than visa-versa.
I think some car drivers cannot fully appreciate this concept.
For some people the car is equivalent to their social status so they choose an expensive, fast and reliable German car :)…regardless of their driving style/skills etc.
Maybe, but I’ve found that it doesn’t really apply if you are going for the second hand car market. Sometimes you are influenced by the deal and condition of the car and are fairly flexible on the type so long as it ticks a number of boxes.
Also, if you work for a company that may have a fleet discount, that might also sway you if you are buying new.
You say that but I disagree.
There’s a Youtube channel from a driving instructor, who also rides a motorbike, and a bicycle and who makes videos (in the U.K. but most of it applies anywhere) where he comments on his own experiences as a driver but also comments on footage sent in from viewers who have caught other drivers and cyclists behaving badly.
Never has the drivers survey once conducted rang so true:
- 80% of drivers think they drive safely and considerately.
- 40% of drivers think that other drivers drive safely and considerately.
It would appear than many drivers and cyclists are the cause of their own downfall in the way they drive.
However, and in response to your comment that a Leopard cannot change their spots, many, after watching these sorts of videos, have changed the way they drive and are now more observant and more considerate to other road users.
On topic, I repost the locations of fix installed radars in Schwyz. The first few post of the thread also mentioned locations in other cantons before of course Tom made this about whining how unfair cyclists are treated and what assholes drivers are.
It’s not actually that many, is it? One would have thought it would have been a lot more.
Here are the ones for Kanton Luzern.
It’s an interactive map.
Map of all of Switzerland.
Although not all those are reporting cameras - some of them are those smile-face/sad-face affairs.
(which are apparently very effective at getting people to reduce their speed),
