That would be my thinking too - but a fluffy kitten lover will along shortly to explain they have had Rav4 for 30 years and it has always started first time and is therefore the best things since sliced bread. (Which isn't actually that good anyway).
I have owned both. Unless something has changed the RAV4, whilst a very cute car with great fuel economy and reliability, and great ground clearance, but performs like crap off road. It's what I would call the hairdresser's fourbie. All show, no performance. (sorry hairdressers).
I loved my RAV, but would take the Subi any day. On our mountain in the Alps, the Swissies mostly drive Subi's and there are zero RAV's. However if you're only seeking a 4WD for city driving...the RAV seating is higher and better for visibility, and I expect being lighter they're better on gas as well.
Thanks for the suggestion . Me to favoring for subaru . since the width of the RAV4 i thought that 3 people can sit comfortably in rear seat I was in dilemma.
It will be very less drive in city as I rely on public transport.maximum city drive will be from oerlikon to adliswil weekly once . Mostly for long haul trip to Italy and germany
The lease on our Sante Fe is just coming to an end and we need to decide what to do. Pay up the final 2k and keep it for the time being, or trade it in for a new car with the same garage. Unfortunately, they don't really have anything which floats my boat; I want to downsize a little and stay with an SUV/crossover, but I'm not mad keen on the Tucson. I'd consider a Forester, but what else in the same category would people recommend? I've test-driven the RAV 4 and Honda CR-V, but wasn't too fussed on them either. If I did go for a Forester, is it worth splashing out a little extra for the XT? I really like the Sante Fe (2.4L petrol automatic), but my only gripe is that it is a little under-powered in my opinion.
Hands down! go for the Forester. Hypothetically speaking, because I have never crashed a car and cant attest to the fact, I would feel safer in a Subaru then most cars on the road. Basically because they use American full size air bags. The RAV may also, but most small cars have the smaller not so adequate European airbags. So I would be surprised, but ask your dealer if the RAV carries full size. Also most of your compact SUVs are just raised platforms of their associated non SUV equivalents. Seems that the cross over is all the rage now. The Forester on the other hand was the first of its kind. Then again the flat motor 4x4 is also one of its kind, allowing for its hug the road feel.
But basically I would test drive and decide on which one feels best. Definitely go for the one that is fastest from 0 to 100, but also has the most torque and gets you through those curves without the ASP kicking in. As for myself, personally, I would go for the outback.
Test drive both of them off-road in harsh conditions with your wife on passenger seat with well fastened seat belts on. Make sure you don't spare her from going thru bumps and potholes. After 1h let her decide. You will know it was a good choice then ...
Now thats a nice looking SUV. Wouldn't mind trying one out sometime. And who says a Foreigner cant be poor here. This is the best place to get a deal on a used low mileage luxury car that only gets driven on the weekends (local trips to the Coop or Migros dont count).
You what???? If the car is sold in Switzerland its airbags will have to reach Swiss standard - which will be the same as the EU - which means smaller, slower inflating - and safer airbags.
The Volvo V70XC was also released in 1997 so that title is dubious. The low centre of gravity benefits of a flat4 are moot in a raised suspension crossover based vehicle. You need to drive a proper car if you think the Forester hugs the road
Why? What possible relevance does that have? Any car that goes from 0-100 around 9-10 seconds will feel the same - 8.8s doesn't feel much quicker than 10.2s in the real world. I'd trade 1s in that sprint for better spread gears and a better 80-110kmh sprint.
The more torque the more likely it is that it will overwhelm the limits of traction causing ASP to kick in.
Do you actually have any idea what you are talking about?
