Swiss Post - app defaults opt-in on e-Post

Today I opened my Swiss Post app to track some parcel deliveries. A couple of pop-ups arrived as Ippened, one being a option for digitl mail. This was PRE-SELECTED, with a confirmation button. I had to manually de-select before confirming to proceed into the app.

I find it a bit rich to default the opt-in on the slider. Many people will be opting in without properly understanding the impact of the choice.

That’s weird, I’ve never had that pop up ever and I check the post app pretty much every day.

I have opened it a few seconds ago after a long break and the behaviour is indeed like written in the first post.

Though, I assume they are interested in having less work for the delivery person. It seems that they want to stress that now this is a default option.

Maybe one day it will become the only free option and the recipient will have to pay if they want to receive paper mail.

Or no paper letter deliveries at all - which is what Denmark’s postal service did at the end of 2025.

Wait a min…is this like the service they offer for vacations? That the paper mail is scanned and forwarded via email? But, would this be the default option?

What happens if you choose it?

I just tried it and got nothing like that at all. How bizarre.

Don’t use the app, just web-site. Don’t see that behaviour.

It’s not for vacations. You can use it all the time. More and more people do this

Not everything can be sent using this method though so some things still have to be sent via normal postal deliveries.

I do and pay CHF 9.90 a month for the privellege. Its not much unless you choose to read and then request the originals for certain docs e.g. certificates.

Indeed it was a long break (at least a few weeks) for me also. Perhaps they are targeting infrequent users who may simply click confirm without paying too much attention to what they are confriming.

Mine hasn’t done this. If I go into the app I have to activate it if I want it.

Maybe they should make it free? I’d have thought they’d save money doing this.

They would probably only save money if they did a wholesale switch of all customers. As it stands ePost involves retaining your paper mail for machine opening and scanning, and then storing the original for 30 days. Thats not cheap if they also have to maintain a parallel mail distribution network.

What’s the impact then? From what I understand this service: nothing. I have been subscribed to it for almost 4 months now. The only change to my life is that I can now receive receipts from the physical post office within this service. And even that required a 3 minutes explanation from me to the Post employee of how this works

I do use it since it exists. The main change was that I did not get all mail, they lost a lot in the beginning, some fines were not paid and that gave me trouble. But that seems to be under control now.

I love that I can pay an invoice of those that have no e-bill with just one click and still more important, can delete spam with one click.

However, the search function in the archive is a bit shitty, the labels are combined in an “or” way instead of “and” and that makes it sometimes difficult to find something. (example: I look for the heating bill of my house for 2021 and choose the labels “heating” “2021” and “house”. I get all mail from 2021, all for “house” and all for “heating”.) That is bullshit!

Are we talking about the same tool? I’m talking about ePost. My ePost inbox is completely empty, I have never received any mail through this system (except the mentioned receipts from the brick and mortar post office) and wouldn’t know how ask business or government to send me mail to ePost.

Yes we are. I pay for forwarding and scanning any letter there, including registered letters. I think it is called “scanning service” and is not included in the free offer. As a result you get all your mail in ePost.
