Swiss Weather!

Yeah, the sky here has been a reddish grey for the last 24 hours or so. Foehn from North Africa carrying Saharan sand is the normal culprit, and not that unusual. Sometimes leaves a distinct surface layer of red on the snow, quite weird when it’s been covered over and you find yourself making red tracks on white snow.

…as it did this time. Good pictures on the Swiss news last night, some here as well. Unless there’s a decent amount of new snow that’s going to end the ski season for this winter.

My black Opel looks like it has been driven by Rommel’s Afrikakorps.

The powers that be have extended our season to the 14th…expecting new snow tomorrow. I woke last night to hear the blessed rain washing away all the red dust, and we had a nice Easter day, 21C with just a little wind.

Snow a few days ago, now…25-26°C for the next weekend.

Yup…we’re expecting barbie weather starting Friday, and 28 Sat (!!)

As opposed to the Ken weather we are having now?

Excellent!

Indeed , excellent - although there are bound to be a few that complain that it is too warm!

Unfortunately, that warmth is also bringing Sahara dust on Sunday.

And then we will have complaints about the complaints.

Or allergies due to pollen

The pollen started early February.

27 degrees at 6 pm. Gusts of strong winds are blowing through the valley. The skies are darkening towards the south while whiffs of Sahara dust permeate through the foreboding air. Strange sounds can be heard in the neighborhood while the church bells rings a warning. This is how I envision the end of the world.

Not complaining at all about the last days weather!! Although the next days could be “partially cloudy”… :joy:

Thunder & lightning here.

Ooh where? The limited view I have out of my window says there’s a bit of blue sky above Zurich (middle of the city).

North of Zürich here.

Ah ok, phew! Looks like it’ll miss us here - can have a trip to the post office without my umbrella in that case.

Temperature’s have been up and down like a yoyo the last few days down here, is it the same across the region? Mid-20’s over the weekend, dropping to around 15 today and as low as zero tomorrow ( on some forecasts), that’s a >20 degree drop in 48 hours, and it’s set to stay cold, with perhaps 30cm of snow expected over the next few days. This all at village level 1350m, much colder and more snow higher up of course.

Which will be good for the last weekend of skiing over on the Chatel-Avoriaz side. Was getting really bad by yesterday afternoon, this dump might just be enough to keep the home run down to Pre la Joux open for the last weekend of the season.
