Swiss Weather!

I am not usually bitching about the weather. BUT seeing blue skies and sunshine now from my desk after a weekend of 3° drizzle pisses me off.

Don’t you have an urgent client meeting across town this afternoon which will probably last at least 3 hours?

I’m just about to discover one in my agenda…

The mountains are covered in new snow. On the valley floor the snow is softly falling. I’m listening to We’re Walking in the Air. This has been a sad year.

Had a bit of snow overnight, but melted off mostly now.

Season’s Greetings and welcome to the winter season!

It is unfortunate that such a tragedy in Germany coincided with Yalda Night, a cherished Persian festival that celebrates the longest night of the year. While the cultural and religious contexts differ, Yalda Night shares many of the communal, celebratory, and symbolic elements that make Christmas a special time for families and loved ones. This pre-Islamic festival honors the triumph of light over darkness (similarly, to Christmas, 4 (+/-1) days later, celebrates the birth of Jesus, symbolizing the arrival of light in the world), a time when people gather with loved ones, like I did, connecting with two of my sisters, my parents and grandparents over a video chat on MS Teams, enjoying festive foods such as pomegranates and watermelon, and sharing stories.

Nice day to stay at home and avoid the Sunday shoppers as the rain’s coming down at at angle. Hope the tarps from the building site across the street don’t go flying.

Yeah, high winds and chucking it down with rain here atm. Branches of the dead trees opposite are waving about.

Beautiful Irish weather today.

Looking a bit grim on the north/south axis today.

Snow forecast in flatland Christmas Eve so small chance of a white Christmas

White Christmas not too likely along La Côte. Minimum of 0°, Maximum of 5° and no precipitation. But both Alps and Jura will be snow covered.

Today was 3 seconds longer than yesterday. Hooray!

Hate to be a pedant, but it wasn’t.

Today was about 23 hours, 56 minutes, and 4 seconds.
Same as yesterday, will be the same tomorrow.

Now, if you mean seconds of daylight …

What? That doesn’t make sense. How is the sun getting up later in the morning instead of earlier? Seems to be right, but that’s just weird.

Snow continued overnight and is still falling here. Forecast to do so all day.

Poor sparrows and great/blue tits; couldn’t get to the bird feeder yesterday because of the high winds and not sure they’ll make it today with all the snow. Will go out and clear it off for them soon and hope they can get to it for a feed.

I hang up seed boules for the tits; not so much the sparrows…they are all feasting, with food on every reachable branch in the garden, as well as hung from the rafters of our balcony. We also see the occasional robin red breast.

Just have a feeder with the bird balls on our balcony railing. Nests are not too near, probably the evergreen or hedge of our neighbours so difficult to get to it with the wind yesterday. We get several sparrows, 2 or 3 great tits and a blue tit. Haven’t seen a robin for some years, but we did occasionally see one come for a feed.

We have an inversion for the next few days…cold on the valley floors, warmer on the slopes. Minus 9 this morning(!) Fog this morning deposited fine diamond-glitter on the deciduous trees, and then the sun came roaring out. Bergfex says no precip for at least a week, and fine sunshine.

All my garden plants are covered in frost today. :frowning_with_open_mouth:
