Swiss Weather!

Supposed to be minus10C in Zurich at the moment. Seems not true. 0700UHR.

MeteoSuisse says -6 at 09:42

Snow, cold weather and sunshine is the perfect winter weather for me. I absolutely enjoy it.

Winter perfection

From WRS (Yes they are still with us):

Freezing temperatures are gripping Switzerland. Overnight lows plunged deep into the double digits below zero in several regions.

The coldest reading came from La Brévine, in canton Neuchâtel, where temperatures dropped to minus 30 - living up to the town’s nickname of the Siberia of Switzerland.

Even colder air was recorded on alpine peaks in eastern parts of the country.

Meteorologists say lingering fog has masked the cold so far, but clearer skies mean sharper freezes ahead.

Major cities haven’t escaped the cold – Geneva reached minus 9 last night, Zurich at minus 8, Sion, minus 10.

The cold even spread to the south of the Alps, Lugano was down at minus 5.

Snow and strong winds are expected later this week, with officials urging caution as conditions rapidly change.

It’s currently -9° here.

It’s been sub-zero for days now and my fingers nearly froze off on the bike ride to work this morning!

Yes, was -9C here when we went out this morning. Currently have -4.1C outside my room but the guage is behind wooden shutters so probably a bit colder than that if it wasn’t protected.

-14’C for me. I’ve got some winter cycling gloves - they make a massive difference.

And I’ve got my little Skoda Citigo with heated seats - Luxury!

But the range has dropped to 170km (@100% charge)

Indeed. Winter gloves feel weird because of the thick padding for the hand palm, but once you use them below zero, they feel great.

I rode last Sunday, only -2 or -3 °C but the winter gloves already helped. My fingers were warm enough to brake with finesse.

The problem with cycling in the winter is unlike running, where you start off cold and soon warm up, you end up getting colder and colder when you cycle and even any heat gain made from cycling up hill is lost on the descent.

I really hope that is a typo, -41°C would be horrendous.

Actually the coldest was near Ebnat Kappel in Toggenberg which recorded -37.1°. La Brévine was mild in comparison!

 Yes, corrected it. Bad enough at -4.1C, never mind -41C!

Perfect temperatures for my ice lantern.

Last night it went down to -16°, no idea what it is now but a brass monkey was asking for a welder.

There’s an ice artist in Minnesota who has made this her living**. Her installations are magic!
**I have no connection to her; it’s just a video of one of her projects.

Ice Age finishes in a few days and then comes snow.
