I was expecting some discussion today about the high temperatures. There’s an average, and also high variability.
I guess I would have started to pray if I lived the 1941 winter. Why not sacrifice a couple goats to the ancient gods?
In the reference period from 1991 to 2020, the 20°C mark south of the Alps was not cracked on average until March 15.
However, the time for the first 20°C in a year can vary considerably. The mark has also been exceeded much earlier.
In 2013, over 20°C was measured for the first time on the south side of the Alps on January 4. In 1941, the Locarno-Monti measuring station didn’t exceed 20°C until May 21.
It was so warm today that I planted out all the hyacinth bulbs forced in the past two months. The primula and snowdrops are blooming, and all the narcissus and tulips are poking up.
I dont live that far away from zurich ariport. Every morning, when at home, I can see and but not so much hear the Singapore Airlines Airbus 380 fly off low and strain as it climbs around 10:30 am and the Emirates one not so soon afterwards … same with a number of other airbus 3xx or boeing 7xx … over the summer, there are always higher altitude criss-crossing trails all throughout the day and through early eveing … was simply curious why none today …
because in the summer the humidity in the upper levels is higher…now it is rock bottom. We now have levels of humidity in our house that rival Colorado, where our hair stood on end and we got shocks from touching almost anything.
Wow! Spring has sprung bigtime. Lovely sunshine and double digit temperatures. Still getting down near zero overnight, but soon warming up again once the sun’s up.
I mean even the “new normal.” Up here, it’s even more striking above 700 metres. Even 10 years ago, we rarely got more than a couple of days in the 80s…now it’s a couple of weeks!
White Sahara dust for three days now, supposedly easing tomorrow. Almost record-breaking temps and things blooming when they shouldn’t be. T shirts and shorts in the first week of March (!)
