Swiss Weather!

I’m sorry, but it’s not fine at all. Today, drove from KA through Alsace (our old stomping ground where we lived at the foot of Les Vosges) all along the Rhine and on to Winterthur. It was so dry looking on all the fields, particularly the slopes. Although we noted that the river was quite full, the stress of the land was clear.

Yup…23 here, going to 30 in the next days. Last day of cooking indoors for a while.
Edit: Just looked at Bergfex…we have 8 days of 30C coming (!!)

Yeah, we stocked up on ready meals to go into the microwave when we did the weekly shop last week because I’d seen the forecast for 30+ coming in this week. Most of what I cook goes into the oven, but certainly don’t want to put that on with those temps!

What about salads? I’m not that keen on eating hot stuff in the hot weather so a chunky salad with a bit of nice bread is a better option for us.

I get some for my lunches, but hubby isn’t that keen on salads so he gets other things to eat instead for those meals.

We pretty much live on salads when the weather’s as hot as this.

I usually don’t recommend putting chilli peppers into food, but…35+°C is a legit reason for it. Couple with a cold Lager (or two) and everything’s fine.

Also, there’s no need to have dinner at 18h30. Temps are cooler by 22h00

Does that help with the heat? Heats you up to nuclear levels then the cool off is a relief, sort of thing?

I BBQ several cuts of steak, turkey breast, etc., to use cold whenever I get the coals hot. Steak sandwiches and Thai beef salad. Also marinated zucchini, onions, corn. This week we’re having esquimole (cross between esquites and guacamole), veal wurstl, turkey tonnato (arugula, parmesan, tuna sauce, Jerez cherry tomatoes), sushi (as always), gyoza (cooked on a burner outside). Pasta salads are nice, too, with a sprinkling of feta cheese.

AFAIK capsicine triggers sweating without contracting any muscle (which generates additional heat), so the body cools down.

There is no need to use Thai, Vietnamese or Mexican levels of chilli. Just look at Southern Italy (Plugia, Calabria, Apulia) and how they use peperoncinos.

Couldn’t eat that late. We eat between 5pm and 6pm.

I think we could have guessed that …

Take care folks and keep hydrated.

Staying indoors as much as possible. At least we do have an air conditioner to help.

The local Jumbo has put pitchers of cold water and paper cups out, with a sign inviting you to drink, a reminder to keep hydrated in this heat. A nice little touch. ( Not to mention it helps the garden furniture display catch your eye!)

OH is stubbornly refusing to install the AC. It usually takes a month of 30+ temps to convince him…

After ripping out 3 layers of 8-foot ceiling and exposing the old oak beams, insulating the floor and ceiling, and installing triple-pane windows overlooking the mountains, we found an Italian unobtrusive fan with clear blades. It makes the room 20C, even in this heat. Still need to regulate the shutters to the west…but it’s so cool in here.

My apartment in the shade got hot, I guess it’s properly hot outside.

It’s not a regular thought around here but cars can be death traps to children, dogs, or chocolates.

There’s no safe amount of time to leave anything in the car under then sun. There’s no “I only go into the shop for 5 mins”.

Cold Lager and Chardonnay were made for this :sun_with_face:

In the same glass?
