Telephone SPAM ( and SCAMs )

Had a new scam: Aliexpress vendor has items on at a too-good-to-be-true price. You buy it and the interesting thing is that they manage to get the delivery supply chain working for them. I get a tracked delivery that item was delivered when in reality nothing was.

Luckily in this case, Aliex refunded the amount even with the delivery notice ‘proving’ I’d received the item.

Is it a possibility that it was delivered, but stolen out of your letter box?

That’s a very common tactic used by some sellers on Chinese websites, I read an article about it not long ago.
I’ll see if I can find it again.

There are actually loads of articles about scams and fake tracking via China post. Ali express etc are aware of such scams and shut down sellers on a regular basis.

The European Commission is going after a number of Chinese on-line retailers for illegal and deceptive practices.

Temu is among 25 “very large” online platforms that must comply with the DSA or risk fines that could reach as high as six percent of their global turnover, or even a ban for serious and repeated violations.

Other shopping platforms that must comply with the DSA include Chinese online retailer AliExpress, US giant Amazon and Chinese-founded Shein.

Other DSA investigations have targeted AliExpress, social media platform X, which is owned by tech billionaire Elon Musk and used to be called Twitter, as well as Facebook and Instagram owned by Meta.

Sometimes I get empty envelope or an absolutely different item from what I ordered. It’s a good practice to film the opening of the package if the size or the volume of the package does not correspond to the expected content. A few weeks ago I received a manicure set instead of a Rubik’s cube. Luckily Ali returned money based on the photos of the package and the content. But I had a case once that they didn’t return money for the empty envelope because I didn’t have a video proof of the unpacking.
