Tesla EV discussion

Badge snobbery is a thing in India, so apart from curious millionaires and tech bros in Bangalore, nobody is paying Audi or Mercedes money for an EV that is inferior to a BYD. Teslas only really make sense with an extensive Supercharger network.

Tesla 2025 sales in China vs 2023 & 2024 are dismal, certaily not growing like previous years.

In Europe*, 5.5k Tesla sales were reported for the week of November 17 to 23. 🇪🇺 This is +46.6% WoW and the best week of the quarter. The quarter after 8 weeks is +20.9% QoQ and -21.5% YoY. YTD sales are -20.2% year-over-year. * Data only from UK, Norway, Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Iceland (~60% of sales in Europe)

and yet the stock market seems to think tesla will do well…

My gut feel says they will gradually reduce focus on cars, and start pushing robots and who knows what else soon enough… Cars will then be spun off..

To be fair, it’s a thing here too - and in most of Europe.

Well for amusement

Here is a survey of the Household robot market

Goldman Sachs projected last year that the global humanoid robot market will be worth $38 billion by 2035. In five years, they estimate that 250,000 humanoid units, mainly for industrial use, will be shipped, while consumers will be buying about one million units a year in about a decade.

Compare this with Tesla annual revenue for 2024 was $97.69B.

Don’t forget Tesla isn’t alone in the robot market; we can already buy working humanoid robots from AliExpress for much lower prices than Tesla is proposing, but nothing Tesla deliverable today.

Most Americans are struggling to afford Thanksgiving, so where is the robot market?

That’s an ugly truth.

With the ones in the gravy

Larger purchases are usually not purchased in the US. Think cars as an example. It’s usual to finance, refinance and re-re-refinance your car, so that there is a massive amount of negative equity on whatever you’re driving.

I expect the robots to not be sold, but rather, rented… and any data they gather (e.g. what food you eat?) to be monetised…a ll in the name of progress

New Model 3 variant with a bit cheaper interior and a bit less extras, a bit cheaper.

If you can live with what is missing, not a bad deal.

Also, Tesla has started sFSD ride-alongs in Germany, France and Italy. Even the usual critical journalists have trouble finding a problem with the way it drives.

The ride-alongs were booked out in a couple of hours, so Tesla arranged some more in Q1/2026, which were booked out even faster.

Is that the same as being taken for a ride?

Volvo makes great interiors with textiles, among them wool. Cozy and noise absorbing. It may be a lower price car in the end,but it doesn’t have to feel “cheap”.

We are entering the “Black Mirror” era of society.

A California judge ruled late Tuesday afternoon that Tesla engaged in “deceptive marketing” in reference to its Full Self-Driving system, and that Tesla’s license to sell and produce cars in the state should be revoked for 30 days.

That’s positive news for Tesla. Now, they can blame the judge for the poor sales of the cybertruck.

The truck is great, but damned government does not allow us to sell it

It absolutely is not. Too big, too heavy and lethal to pedestrians.
