Who has the scoop? It seems Gerry annoyed someone immensely (ergo the broken windows) and now the Dub is closed and someone, I assume the same person, has daubed "Ha ha c--t" and "F--k you Gerry" on the windows.
So....?
Yeah, whoever Boyce is, he seemingly snorted the business... One of my faves is 'Profits - coke = bankruptcy'
Strange that after a week noone pays any attention to the profanities... i find it quite amusing.
Boyce = Gerry = the owner.
So that's how you get one pub up two nostrils then?
Maybe it was a disgruntled staff member? If so, he certainly wouldn't be the first manager of an expat pub in Zurich to treat their staff like dirt...
I heard about the windows (smashed from within) and assumed it had something to do with the Zuerich derby football match in the same week.
Though, if it's still boarded up it must be something more......

i was walking past the other day and noticed this. about 100m down the road was a little card with a shamrock on it.
written on the back was some writing that said something like "yes im in the office snorting the profits up my nose, and the girl wont get paid".
something like that anyhow. very strange occurrence!!!

What goes round comes round. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. Hope Sean's got the good news!
typically cryptic. why wont someone just explain whats going on, even if its coded language??
Yeah, how about spilling the beans? I'm interested in knowing what happened and if the pub is going to open again.

Your right sorry about that. I was just so pleased to see that jerry had got his come- uppance. It all started years ago when he did the dirty on the ex-manager from the Oliver twist. He gave up a secure pub and his life savings and pension to go into business with jerry. Within months to a year the slime ball wangled a way into getting more shares of the place and tossed Sean out onto the street. Without many people getting to know the full story he lost alot of old established ex-pats. In the meantime he's had umpteen disgruntled employee's take him to court and through his increasing paranioa pissed a lot of people off.
In my own dealings with him he's been slimily friendly untill he's found an opportunity to stick the knife in twist, then sit back and sadisticly lick his lips.
I only put him into Google after reading the article in the Tages Anzieger i was hoping for some gory details too. As the pub is bankrupt it could be a while untill it's open again if ever.
Sorry i haven't got more for you alls i can say is that my "shadenfreude" knows no boundries.
Great site by the way.
Hmmm Google?

the first 5 or 6 links have more information.
Jerry has his fanclub still, I see
btw I thought the Gerry on the windows was wrong....but that is by someone Jerry booted? I also know that it seems many of the crews doing service were pressured into long hours with decent pay - but then booted so that they could not work together to scam the man ....
I also know many many expats who refused to go there because of the fallout when the Dubliner was formed....
I've been here 9 years and used to almost live in the Dubliner, but was never really on good terms with Jerry. OK, there were many nights when we'd get a lock-in, and also quite a few nights when he'd take a load of us into a club for free after closing, and we'd get drinks all night "on the house". That was quite cool, but he seemed to be having problems for ages. I heard tales of him getting involved with ladies of ill repute, and snorting all his money, and the fiasco of the shop he bought next door to turn into a club. That ultimately ended up causing a war with his old mate who owns the Kaufleuten when Jerry refused to sell it to him, and the Kaufleuten boss rallied all the rest of the Zurich club owners against Jerry, and put a block on him doing anything with it. He paid a mad monthly rent on that place for donkies years, while it sat empty and useless. He does seem to be a grand master at pissing people off, and quite badly too.
I was on pretty good terms with a load of the ex-bar staff who were on the recieving end of Jerry's odd moments, and they all ended up walking out, and usually with no pay. The turnover of staff has been extremely quick the past while. It's all a great shame, because that was once a great corner of Zurich that we went to for a few beers and to feel like we were away from Switzerland for a few hours.
Shame the true Irish owner of the chain in Swissieland has sold it on....he was a good lad
The 'Paddy Reilly's' bar in Winterthur is pretty good though..... Let's hope they bring the same qualities to the Zurich operation.

Hello
Does anyone know what has happened to Jerry!!
Applecider, I'm assuming from your location that you know Jerry reasonably well and he's gone off the radar since the pub went under?
Hi!
Many thanks for your message Lob Rockster. Yes, I do know Jerry , he is my brother. I have not spoken to him for years.
I told over the weekend about the pub and I was shocked to hear that he has not got a very good name for him self. Also that he took drugs etc. He was told by his mother to repest people.
His mother died last year and he did not even come over for her furneal. If you know anyone that has any news, please let me know.
When visiting Switzerland I thought it was great. I am hoping to visit again later in the year.
if that's true then I am sorry for your loss and sorry that it seems Jerry went off the rails. Rumours of drugs and more are rife; he's the only one who can confirm or deny them, I'd say. But he has alienated himself to many who refused to drink at the pub.....for me, I never had a problem with him.
If I run into him, I will mention you are asking after him. I would not begin to think where that might be though, but I can mention it to mutual friends. If the rumours are true then I hope he's getting some help
well....I just tried Paddy Reilly's (actually, I was going to try it last Friday but no tables were outside) for lunch.....
Sit down at a table.....wait.....wait.....wait.....be passed by at least 3 staff, one of whom finally comes and asks what we want.
A menu?
A menu. Well, a piece of paper with three meals as Tagesmenu plus a couple of snacky-type things.
Needless to say their lack of effort and investment (or explanation) lead to ..... us leaving.
all-round - but the changes inside have made it lighter and more open as the partitions are pretty much down.
Shame about your experience Lob i'd personally give it another try though. it's always a bit hectic for staff in a totally new place. Hopefully within a few weeks they'll all get the hang of the tills, system etc. Saying that it'll be a couple of weeks before i'll get the chance cos i'm off on my hols friday
Please please pray for nice weather in the north of england cos i cant stand the thought of a week of rain on a canal boat
