Energy drinks are a very big thing here, I've noticed as well. The most popular brand seem to be the cheap M-Budget green can though, not Red Bull (especially among teens).
PS: It's not also a typical swiss breakfast, but lunch as well. (watch what teens are buying at Migros between 12:00 and 14:00 and you'll get the idea)
Well it's just that the OP has to shake the smoking issue they have with the country, and not try to think of new thread,s as a way to work their non smoking beliefs, without starting new non smoking threads. This person seems so shocked that this country isn't as so advanced with their native Australia, and we must all be more like the country they left.
I think that is what the OP was trying to actually do. I personally don't care if people are drinking Red Bull or not. Back in the US, and a lot of places people can be seen with a bottle of coke in their hands, big deal. It's basically the same. Isn't there something the OP has noticed about CH, more interesting to talk about?
There are lots of pretty mountains. Many of the pretty mountains are covered in snow. There are lots of people on the mountains. Some of the people on the mountains are walking. Some of the people on the mountains are running. Some of the people on the mountains are climbing. Some of the people on the mountains are working. Some of the people on the mountains are smoking. I can't believe all these people smoking everywhere in the mountains. Back in Australia... oh, never mind...
It's a trend and image among teenagers, but drinking one red bull is like drinking a cup of coffee, I don't know about you but I don't get a loud after a cup...
also, why do some of you groan at the OP, he wasn't even complaining just made an observation...teenies are sure smoking and drinking energy drinks, but it seems to be a global thingie...
From all the passionate messages on this thread, I get the feeling that EF people also have an addiction to energy drinks!!!!!
In the USA we used to make it "matter-o-fact" that people who compulsively drank mountain dew were complete fucing white trash. But in Switzerland they pursue this kind of drink and they have a liking for mullets. Its kinda weird.
But a couple years ago I watched a woman feed her 6 or 7 year old son a red-bull for breakfast, at about 7:30am.... People here dont understand limits to things like this. Its too ingrained into the society.
My Swiss neighbor used to give her 1.5 year old those cold coffee drinks they sell at Kiosks, like one after the other. I told her, as she spoke english and french, "isn't that crazy to give a kid so young coffee?" Her response is that she had already been giving her 4 year old coffee for the last 3 years, so it was fine.
Energy Drink, Coffee, Coke, it's all pretty much the same. When I was in college, I worked nights and also had a bunch of 7:00 am classes. I picked up a massive coffee habit, but if red bull had been around back then I probably would have gone for it instead. What's the big deal?
