Is this a mouse? It’s quite chunky and trying to gnaw its way into my house. I was hoping the neighbourhood cat would have caught it by now, but it is very wiley.
The tail suggests it’s more rat than mouse. Difficult to get the scale of it - how big approximately? Maybe its drive to get into the house means it has got young in there?

Definitely a rat. Clear away any debris from the house walls, and put away the bananas!
I’ve managed to catch smaller mice, but this rat is evading all traps and cats. It managed to bite a large hole in the soffit before I managed to scare it away and cover it in metal. but it is now looking for other ways in.
I guess body is 15-20cm long. hard to tell. but I think you’re right that it is probably a rat.
I didn’t know they liked bananas. I’ll try using that as bait. I managed to trap smaller mice with peanut butter.

Deffo don’t try that with a wild rat but pet rats are fantastic. Endless entertainment.

I think it’s a vole. Gardeners hate them. Our cat catches them…
Is he the one who likes to eat freshly caught raw fish? Watch him.

Looks like a rat to me. You could call in a pest control company.
Our cats and all the others in the neighbourhood catch loads of those but they’re still rampant. They breed very quickly.
The cat is not an idiot. Only catches small mice and small birds. This is a proper rat AKA sewer monster.
Our older boy has caught rats in his time but these days he prefers to chill out and only catches the mice and bikes if they’re under his nose.
The younger one is pretty small so the rat would probably intimidate him but he’s an expert mouser.
Are the mice riding the bikes at the time or does he try his luck with the full size versions?
