Zurich airport, Saturday afternoon, 1 hour wait even to get into security as they’ve only opened 3 scanning machines for all economy flights. For a long time they only had two open. Queues in T1 nearly out of the door to T2

Lots of very worried/agitated passengers in the queue, even though very calm once you’re finally through (excepting those running for their flights)

There is something going on. In Oerlikon, Zurich, this pm I saw 4 minivans full of zurich police unload and cover the entire intersection (tram 10) stop which goes to the airport.

Label said Zurich police. they were dressed in all black, carrying full automatic weapons, dressed in all black, shin guards, arm and elbow guards, front and back external bullet proofing, riot helmets, etc …

Some were statiotned at the middle of the intersection checking out the trams and buses, while a pair each at each intersection corner checking out people at that intersection …

Zurich police I have seen are normally dressed in the blue (Zurich color) outfits, with batons … and some carried pistols …

I have never seen Zurich police dressed in all black, so weaponized and armored with full external protection.

Ouch

Might be something to do with this?

The “March for Life” is taking place for the 16th time in Zurich-Oerlikon. Organizers expect “several thousand” people to protest against abortion. Left-wing groups have announced counter-demonstrations.

Shortly before 3 p.m., the situation in Oerlikon’s market square was as follows: The square was cordoned off with barriers and screens, police officers in full riot gear were stationed everywhere, and access was strictly controlled.

that is entirely possible. As the norms in CH, they are also not taking risks (humor intended :)) …

The police just tweeted this. Seems it’s all kicking off:

Maybe people who are against abortion should just not get one. Dickheads.

Some UK airports affected by another air traffic control issue.

Nats said a “connectivity issue” was to blame for the disruption

i.e. Someone tripped over the electricity cable.

It must be contagious.

Summary

  • Ground stops have been ordered at major US airports in New York City, Boston and Philadelphia after a communications malfunction impacting air traffic control, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) says
  • Dozens of flights were left stranded on the runway Monday morning, with delays continuing to spread
  • The issue is related to frequencies at the Philadelphia air traffic control, which handles traffic for airports in the region, according to US media
  • Boston Logan International Airport has warned travellers to expect delays due to “equipment issues across the northeast”

This from BBC.

Apparently a crew working on am Amtrack line severed an optic cable connection. Surely these networks need redundant connections?

Number 13 tram in Zurich will resume normal route in January.

Don’t know the reason but the A1 between Nyon an Coppet has been at a standstill for over 20 mins. This between Lausanne and Geneva. There are no alternative routes besides the local roads. The traffic in our small village is very heavy ATM.
