Just in time for a cold beverage!
My wife, me, three cats are all hiding in darkened bedroom with AC going full tilt boogie. I did manage to find a near-frozen lager in the back of the fridge. Bliss
Does she know you call her that?![]()
Oops, damn productive text. ![]()

Following an accident near Flamatt (FR), the A12 motorway is blocked in both between Guin (FR) and Niederwangen (BE). According to Alertswiss, the accident was caused by a trailer truck, which was the only one involved. Material damage is to be deplored.
“Traffic is severely disrupted,” Alertswiss said. The duration of the disruption is indefinite. You have to make a wide detour to avoid the area and take the A1 between Bern and Lausanne.
It’s only closed in one direction now, it’s open to traffic travelling towards Bern although I suspect it might be slow moving due to people rubbernecking.
People starring in Switzerland?
Surely not?
I didn’t mention it yesterday but the CFF had another “accident de person” yesterday which closed the Geneva - Lausanne axis for four hours. Huge crowd at Nyon where everyone had to leave the train including airport passengers with their bags. Utter Chaos with no replacement buses, not even for the airport. Apparently, now that school is out, all the bus drivers are on holiday.
LX 16 from ZRH to JFK has diverted to Bangor, Maine and declared an emergency. One post on Reddit says smoke in the cabin, but haven’t heard that or anything else on ATC chatter.
It appears to be safely on the ground in Bangor now. Hopefully a check of the ovens will reveal the cause quickly.
Tue 4 August.
Numerous flights in/out of Geneva tonight are cancelled, delayed or diverted due to thunderstorms.
Www.GVA.ch is where you can check your flights.
Sunday 9 August: Spain does implement revenge measurements on Italy up from today. As Italy does control entering persons from Spain since the Ceuta invasion, Spain does so up from today for persons entering from Italy.
If you enter Spain from Italy or vice versa calculate some extra time.
Some trains between Bern and Fribourg are cancelled or delayed due to a rock slide on the tracks. Delays and cancellations are expected to last until about 15.00. There are replacement buses running between Niederwangen and Schmitten.
Flew yesterday back from Dubai (drove first from Abu Dhabi, where I was working). Most European carriers have cancelled their flights for two weeks now --until end of summer, so I flew one of the ME carriers. After 2 h of waiting inside the plane, due to -as expected- air traffic restrictions, and takeoff, the route was detoured (& re-routed from the original showed on the screen map) by about 1,000 km, and looked more like the path of someone looking for a maze exit, than an ‘optimized flew path’ usually followed by air companies. As we flew somewhere over the dessert, among wasp-nest countries, I saw from my window seat two strange looking flying objects crossing underneath the plane. I stopped looking…
In a normal world the ME3 (Emirates, Etihad, Qatar) wouldn’t be flying as commercial insurance companies would have withdrawn their policies due to the danger and cost of an “unscheduled” hull retirement”.
But these three airlines are not insured commercially, they are “insured” by their owners and governments. While this allows them, under international aviation law, to operate there is little to ensure that these governments would actually pay claims if/when they happen.
I recommend anyone contemplating travelling via Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Doha consider the danger of doing so.
We will never set foot there again, for many reasons.
just saw Etihad offering about 1/2 price ( from normal) business class tkt from Geneva to almost all of se Asia between now and end of next March.
You should be OK, except if you aren’t. Buy extra insurance for your next of kin.
All UK airports suffering serious ATC disruptions.
