I was thinking to get the Tubal Ligation done after the birth of my child (2 is enough, I am ready to close the factory). And I know it is something that can be done here since my doctor told me is wasn't a problem.
Since I am going to be already open, it will be easy to just snip snip .
But yesterday while doing some research on the subject, I came accross some very scary informations about Tubal Ligation Syndrome .
Did you ever heard about it? It is apparently not something talked into the medical circle... I am curious how is Switzerland's position about this procedure.
I am not going to have it done.... not after reading all the infos I could found about this syndrome. But I want to know if you heard about it and what you think. If someone else was having the idea to have it done too, maybe this informations will help too.
The second part of my post is about Vasectomy. How is the procedure here in Switzerland and is it cover by the insurances? How our men are taking it?
As nothing in life is certain, I always cringe when someone suggests each of the two options you are reviewing which, aside from some very nasty side effects if things don't go according to plan, they are both difficult or impossible to reverse in many instances (despite the assurances) should your situation change.
Why not just look at the IUD option that gives you protection, no or little monthly issues and is in for FIVE years before needing to be changed. An annual check up is all that is needed (which you do anyway).
I am sure a number of the ladies on the board would be able to give you more details and support for going for the "less drastic" option of an IUD. Then you can review the situation in five years and see where things are.
Continual bombardment of the body with hormones over the very long term is unhealthy and a cancer risk. I would argue it is the more drastic option. I'm sure others will disagree however.
Looks like a regular hormonal disorder. From physiological point, it is absolutely logical. Some people just happen to overreact to changes to hormonal cycle. It sounds like severe menopause, loads of people have this when their lower reprod. organs get removed, some ease the symptoms with Hormonal Replacement Therapy, which also have risks. I wouldn't go for it, sorry. Jimmy hats, or have him go through the snips. I don't know why the surprise by the blogger, but she should have been informed, poor thing . I think the medical community does not inform since there is an interest to generate cash, for patient convenience (it is probably quite rare, not to panic) and because the procedure hasn't been done long enough for definite conclusion.
No I totally agree with you. I had very bad reactions on all kind of hormones for birth control which made me give them up many many moons ago. This is why I am looking for those two options.
I had a tubal ligation done after number 4 in October 2009. My periods are a little different than they were before, but they aren't too bad, just a little longer and they come more frequently. But, I am not sure if this is due to the tubal or because I am 42 1/2
Regarding the problems some women have after a tubal, I spoke with my doctor before and she told me that many women are on the pill most of their fertile time and get used to very regular and light periods because of it. After their tubal, they have the first "normal" periods of their adult lives!
Food for thought regarding this permanent decision: are you sure you are done? I was done, done, done and, yup, done after I had two..... time and those two starting school and here I sit with 4! A quote I once read said: "No one ever regrets a swim or a baby!". I think that is probably true!
Before the tubal, I had the non-hormonal IUD. That was no problem for me, just wanted something quite permanent this go 'round, because, this time, I am done for sure!!! (A friend told me that every time I smell my husband's towel I get pregnant and that I should probably throw that towel away!)
The easiest option is for Mr Nil to have a Vasectomy. There are always those who come out with the fact that in the future things could change and the man might want a new family.
I know several men who have had the procedure and they actually say that they are relieved that the chances of another pregnancy is very small and they are happy that their partners do not have to take any pills etc.
They also say that it was not so bad as they though it was and recovery was very quick.
I've never heard of that syndrome before. I'm not saying it doesn't exist, but I was under the impression that a tubal ligation doesn't mess with your hormones at all. Isn't it just about preventing the egg from entering the uterus by blocking the path?
Not all IUDs use hormones... in fact I thought most of them didn't. I was under the impression that they worked on the principle that they make the womb an inhospital place. Not saying its not without side effects but its generally less chemically invasive than birth control pills.
As far as tubal ligation vs vasectomy.. there are many reports on the internet of men having problems after vasectomies as well - so just determine who is going to roll the dice between you or your husband.
I know some of them release copper which is actually worse. Obviously it's easy to make sweeping statements but "inhospitable place" doesn't sound holistically good.
We chose the later, as it is less invasive. I also felt that I had carried and given birth to 3 children - it was his turn to 'sacrifice'! Not to mention it is a simple out-patient procedure (at least here in the US).
Exactly, there is no hormone involment at all. I doubt the person in the blog has such a syndrome it is most likely a hormone imbalance. Given what she says about her "insomnia" and sleeping pattern I would not give much credit to her self diagnosis.
Nil when I discussed this subject with my Dr he said that if after the op you change your mind and do want more kids reversal is not really an option but IVF is.
I had a tubal ligation during my 3rd C. Section procedure. They would not do clips due to the movement post birth of the uterus so I had both tubes removed.
I had it done at 24 and now at 42 I cannot say it has caused me any troubles at all. A lot less headache than panicking I was up the duff again!
