UK elections

As you know Nigel Farage has a number of despicable friends like Trump & excusing Putin’s actions in Russia, he’s even been caught pandering to the likes of Napoleon Bonaparte for which he’s been awarded this medal.

Posted on another site and made me laugh. Thought it fit with the image above.

Apparently a greenpeace protester climbed up on top of the Conservative Battle Bus with a sign reading

“Clean Power Not Paddy Power”

Strange that my post was deleted.

I assumed we are also allowed to make fun of the Labour party too?

I bet the person who deleted it won’t own up to it.

Did they send you a PM explaining why?

I rarely read KK’s post but I did see that one. I flagged it as being racist as it suggested that a Labour party application would only be written in non-English languages from South Asia.

I will now go back to ignoring KK.

That someone like you would flag my post isn’t surprising, it’s when the mods act on this and delete it is as ‘offensive’ that seems weird.

I don’t think it’s a secret or disputed that many ethnic minorities vote for the Labour party nor that the party tries to appeal to these communities so I don’t see why it’s not allowed to make fun of this.

The UK General Election campaign enters it’s final week.

Brexit Elites?

It was Direct Democracy in action. The people voted for Brexit.

By posting that image are you suggesting Direct Democracy is not a good thing?

Even for those that voted for it !! - I don’t believe anyone thinks Brexit was a success but at least the Brexits fully deserved what they voted for !!!

Well actually the ‘people’ did not vote for it. Less than half of the electorate voted for it.

Based on the referendum results, 37.4% of the UK electorate voted in support of Brexit.Specifically:

  • There were 46,500,001 registered voters eligible to participate in the referendum.
  • 17,410,742 people voted to leave the European Union.
  • This means 17,410,742 out of 46,500,001 registered voters, or 37.4% of the total electorate, voted for Brexit.

And before you say it fewer of the electorate opposed it.

But it is correct to say that the ‘people’ either opposed it, or abstained.

In terms of the election, though, the fact that the main parties are avoiding addressing it at all costs tells us everything we need to know.

If it were the rip-roaring success with all the sunlit uplands and whatever they were tooting about, it would be front and centre of the Tories’ manifesto.

It’s not even mentioned.

I was at school with JC, an ‘interesting’ character. I’ll leave it there.

The average Labour voter loves to blame Brexit for everything, willfully ignoring the fact that their country was already turning into a shithole - in fact, the utter state of it was that which ultimately caused people to vote, hoping for change.

Tell me how Brexit’s made it better, then.

Or voted for it.

If there was something wrong with the voting system - people were coerced or forced to vote, or not vote then the whole referendum should have been null and void.

Don’t misunderstand me - I’m dead against Brexit, it shouldn’t have happened - or at least it shouldn’t have happened without ten years of pre-voting due diligence and a year or so of explaining, to the public, the possible consequences of voting for it, and against it.
The whole thing is an absolute mess with voter ignorance (through no fault of their own in most cases) being partly to blame.

I don’t like direct democracy unless it is on trivial issues where there’s no danger of a minority group being pushed aside.
I can’t see any benefits of it apart from giving people a nice warm glowing feeling inside that they are creating change themselves.

Is there a minimum percentage of vote turn out here before a referendum is declared null and void?

In my view a majority of the electorate should be required to pass referendums.

I never claimed it made it better or worse, merely that the UK was already going downhill before it occurred.

Quote of the month.

Election not a referendum on me or the Tories, says Sunak

Oh, yes it is. All your sins are coming back to haunt you.

I think there should be a simple unbiased set of multiple-choice questions which the voter needs to answer correctly so it is clear they understand the issues for, and against, before they are allowed to move on to the actual voting bit.
