What can be done?
I can understand that a country that has eradicated rabies does not want to take the risk- totally. But surely something can be done. Any idea?
Edit: several countries now allow pets in without passports and vets are available at the borders in some countries to get the necessary vaccinations.
Perhaps some of us with suitable space and location- could offer space for a family and pet/s.

Shelters in the countries that have relaxed bureaucracy in response to the crisis will need financial support. At the moment, this is perhaps the most effective thing we can do from Switzerland - donate to those helping on the ground.
I've seen several mentions in the press of a Romanian rescue in Suceava, Casa Lui Patrocle, that is working near the border to help refugees with pets.
Unfortunately their website seems to only be in Romanian. (The English and German pages do not seem to work.)
There are also help points for people with animals at the Polish border and they are urging people to travel with their pets and not leave them behind.
Could you please post this in the other thread about direct help please. And tidying up all the irrelevant comments to the purpose of that thread would be really helpful too. Thanks.
Got lots of warm clothes ready, and doing a big wash now for other stuff- and will go and buy some of the above next week to put with my parcel (one of our common friends will bring on Saturday as I am unable to come). Keep it going- and let's see the best of EF again. x

As sirens rang out amid Russia’s attack on Ukrainian cities Thursday, scores were forced to flee their homes.
Some clutched their beloved pets — the cats and dogs they simply could not leave behind amid the barrage of attacks coming from Russia.
****If you are fleeing or know someone who has, help has been offered for your pets. The animal protection association Casa lui Patrocle supports and offers help for families with pets who enter Romania from the Ukraine via the Sireten.
The shelter is located in Suceava, about 40 km away from the Ukrainian border.****
****SAVA’s SAFE HAVEN volunteers have set up emergency places and prepare all resources to welcome any pet that enters Romania
