Hi,

Can someone give me either a link or contact details of BERN unemployment office?

I am unemployed EU citizen with B permit and looking for work.

Is there an unemployment office (the government one..not Addecco or Manpower) where I can leave my CV and have a consultation and get help in finding a job?

I dont speak German, French Italian...just english.

I was not "fired" I was on my probation period and decided to leave it. Because the job was horrible.

My contract at the time was within the 3 month probation period

If you have given notice yourself, unemployment benefits are blocked for twelve weeks. You will only be entitled to unemployment benefits after this period has expired. You also need to register asap and start applying for jobs - you will need to prove that you've made an effort looking for a job.

I will try to answer all of these in order.

1. I am not looking for any “benefits” (money or otherwise). I am only interested in their ability to help me find another job. (Aka, fore to have a consultation with them, leave my CV & preferences with them)

I hope that I can do that. )

2. I have been applying like crazy so there is no issue in showing the evidence of me trying 😂

What did you mean by “benefits”. Am I not entitled to their “consultation” and registration in to their system if I was the one who quit during my probation?

You can have your consultation. They will just not find you a job, that is your task.

They may check your cv to see if you can improve it but nothing more than that.

Yes they do not “actively” search for your job...

But they do get contacted by companies looking for workers... and then the employment office cross checks their job requirements with their internal CV database...

At least thats how my countries employment office works.

In Switzerland it is a bit different. They pay you (if you contributed to the system) and guide you, but you will have to do the heavy lifting.

Sometimes there are jobs coming through them, but their main function is NOT to manage and distribute job offers.

Not sure that they answer what I asked. They all talk about “benefits” (in terms of money benefits). Which I am not looking to ask or need as I have money in personal reserve to sustain myself.

Nowhere they say anything else besides “monetary unemployment benefits”.

They did say “ be ready and immediately available to accept a job that matches your professional profile;”

Hence why I thought that the unemployment office can infact contact you should they stumble upon a job that may fit your skills

Thats all I ask. I understand its not like I just “register “ and kick my feet back hahaha

But as long as they do occasionally contact you. Thats great!

I can recommend searching for a zwischenverdienst(any work will do this, as long the payment is correct for swiss standards), so you are earning money, quieten the rav and reduce the usage of your 400 day limit of the rav.

So you can do your applications (at least 15-20 a month).

You will have meetups at the rav, but they will not take long (5-10 mins every 4-6 weeks).

My RAV did not have french courses, only german( when your mother language is german, you do not improve this).

You can do most of your documents for the rav online, at the end of each month you will have to send them a list your your applications and the replies to your applications,

The RAV is definitly not a good help , to get a new job, they are an observer at your effort to get a new job.

I wouldn't register with RAV if you don't want money. They really don't help you find a job, and they demand a lot from you or place restrictions on you (travel, holidays etc). I don't think you'll do any better than looking by yourself with RAV.

Look guys, I want to level with you here.

I tried Manpower...they mostly do German speaking jobs only. Addecco had a few nice posts.

I am firing on all doors and cylinders. Registering with RAV cannot hurt...right?

I apply by myself 100% of the time. All of these employment agencies are more of "cast as many nets as possible move". You never know haha.

If any of you know of companies that are famous for accepting ENG/ non German speaking candidates that I am more than happy to listen and would greatly appreciate it.

I can not recommend adecco or manpower, they collect only data from jobseekers, but don't deliver.

I can recommend universal job, they are really good.

At the top of this section of the forum (Employment) you’ll find a sticky thread which links to companies that may want English speakers. I suggest you start there.

Also you could look on jobs.ch and jobup.ch for jobs though most will probably not want just English as a language.

What field of work are you in? If we know we may be able to point you towards companies you might have overlooked. But be warned, most jobs in Switzerland will want a national language; English is a bonus but won’t get you a job on its own for most positions.

My most common departments are: marketing, procurement, logistics, sales, sales support, business administration (or office assistant), consultant...project management...etc
