The situation in US is so bad that they are now changing their mind and asking people to go vacinate.
Methinks too little too late. While the death toll won’t be high one death from a preventable disease is too many. However the economic costs of the disruption to education and to taking care of the little ones is going to be enormous.
The nightmare is spreading
Or lifetime consequences in ears or nervous system.
I’m afraid US is not 1st place. Only 910 measles cases year-to-date…pitiful numbers, they need to improve their mismanagement of public health. Mexico had 2’954 confirmed cases in the same period. Confirmed cases (red), rejected after test (green), being tested (beige).
The 6th week of 2026 had a long weekend in Mexico (less testing, lower cases number). The results for the 7th week will be available soon and it may be a surprise.
The backlash was too much for them
" The US Food and Drug Administration has reversed course and will review a new mRNA flu vaccine from Moderna, the pharmaceutical company said Wednesday.
About two weeks ago, the FDA sent Moderna a letter in which it refused to accept the application to review its first mRNA seasonal flu vaccine — a rare move by the federal agency that raised concern about another setback for the technology that’s been a target of some Trump administration health officials."
No doubt they will find some weak excuse to fail it?
I certainly hope they seek approval from Europe at the same time.
Edit Apparently they have submitted it to Canada, Europe and Australia-at least.
I’m happy to be a guinea pig if they need one n
time to get those vaccination campaigns going again.
Interestingly enough this wouldn’t be the first time football is involved in a measles epidemic if it comes to it this summer. Remember 2008 when CH and Austria co-hosted the European Championship, EURO 2008, it almost had to be canceled due to a measles wave. The wave got started by an international meeting in Salzburg of Rudolf-Steiner schools, a Swiss pupil (possibly from Basel or thereabouts) was identified as patient zero. The pupils quickly spread the disease all over Europe, back to wherever the attenting pupils came from.
It looks like this might happen again this year, except this time would probably happen on a much larger, and global, scale.
I was intrigued by last years’ Mexico data, the death rate is unusually high (crazy high actually) with 24 deaths out of less than 6k confirmed cases, so I dug abit. The outbreak was largely concentrated around Chihuahua which registered 14 deaths, mainly children under 4 years. Of those 14, 11 were indigenous and 3 mennonites. The mennonites were the source of the outbreak, their lifestyles differ wildly by community but in general they tend to being tech-averse. Reminds me of the anthroposophe Rudolf-Steiner schools…
Indeed, the outbreak in Mexico started with Mennonites in Chihuahua. There’s a lot exchange in this community living both in Chihuahua and Texas. And yes, they have their own ideas about vaccines.
But, that was last year. The incidence rate (confirmed cases / 10k people) was the highest in Chihuahua in 2025, and dropped dramatically for 2026. Of course, only 2 months but if the incidence rate is multiplied for 6 to account for whole 2026 is still 2 orders of magnitude less than 2025. Outbreak is basically over in Chihuahua This is from the daily outbreak report by national authorities.
The issue here is that Chihuahua is 3 million people spread over 250k sq km (save for 2 big cities). The 2nd peak in the outbreak is driven by the 5+ million people living in the Guadalajara Metro Area. Guadalajara metro is a bit more than the area of Kanton St. Gallen, think about 5+ million people living in that space and how quickly a virus can spread. There are 4 WC matches scheduled there.
Things are not going well. Week 6 2026 (Feb 2 > Feb 8) has already 1’000+ confirmed measles cases, and still 1’700+ samples “being tested”. It takes like 3 weeks for the majority of samples to be tested and reported, so the daily update is only a rear-view mirror.

Isolation of cases? Naaaahhhh…let’s just go back to measles parties! What could go wrong?
Truly sad!
Not so certain face masks will be very effective in preventing the spread of the measles virus. It likely will collect the virus effectively but it will live there for hours. Disposing them in the normal bin won’t kill them, or give them a light bruising. They will remain dangerous every time other people come nearby.
Not saying don’t wear a mask. Just dispose of it properly!
Less trust in RFKJR than Fauci in a new poll
: About 4 in 10 U.S. adults are confident Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (38%) and Dr. Mehmet Oz (42%), administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, are providing trustworthy information on public health – lower than the confidence people say they had in Dr. Anthony Fauci (54%), former head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, when he was in office.
So many!
The over 70 year old RFKjr had surgery for a rotational cuff injury.
I wonder what could have caused that
I doubt it is a great idea for the Health Secretary to be encouraging old people to do over-violent exercises
It’s funny to speculate on a cause-effect relationship. But, from the same article…this is not funny ![]()
A study from Finland published last month in JAMA Network Open found that 99% of the population over 40 years old had at least one detectable issue with the rotator cuff on an MRI regardless of whether they had symptoms.
I think I’ve got some wear and tear with mine, and I notice it if I haven’t been training it with weights and swimming. It’s almost as if the muscles are acting as a big support bandage, and if they weaken then the joint gets creaky and stiff.
Some years ago I crashed hard in the bike. Nothing broken, but the right shoulder hurt for months. Sometimes, it feels like electric shocks in that shoulder. I’m part of the 99% ![]()
