Warning (Epalinges) Lion on the loose

"At 3:30 p.m., a private individual reported that a lion was prowling the garden. The sighting was confirmed by an expert. According to employees of the zoo in Servion, the animal in the picture is said to be a female lion.

According to the cantonal police, the police, the wildlife authority of the canton of Vaud and the cantonal veterinarian are on site. According to "24heures", several drones and a Super Puma helicopter have been in use since around 6 p.m., circling over the area. Numerous police patrols and snipers are also on site.

Servion Zoo confirmed on request that both of their lions are still at the zoo. So if the wildcat escaped from a zoo, the Sikypark in Crémines (BE) would be the only option. The zoo could not immediately be reached for comment."

Was not sure in which section to post this

This Lion news was supposed to escape tomorrow

Liked the "Super Puma Helicopter" reference.

The authorities are not treating it as a joke

In case it is, somebody will be in big doo doo

That is not a lions tail.

Maybe they used the missing right front leg for a tail?😉

Actually if you cover up top have of Lion with your hand, the “legs” look suspiciously like elephant heads with trunks 😂😂😂

The ball is a ping pong ball and the fence is only 25cm high.

April fools ?

A day early

ooops didn't see the post date.. so it's real

It is real, and the person who claimed seeing it showed the photos to the police. But it is unlikely to be a Lion they say, may be a Puma? Or a big sized dog (looking like a lion), nobody is sure. But they are certain that there is something.

Be careful if you are in that area.

Looks like a puma to me. A puma has a thick tail (like the one in the picture) while a lion has a thinner tail.

From WRS this morning. https://www.worldradio.ch/news/

And, No, this isn’t poisson d’Avril, they have that on another story suggesting Switzerland is moving to a four day week.

Looks like a large Labrador type dog to me!

Well it won’t get far on 3 legs...

We've got a cat with 3 legs, same one missing. You'd be amazed what he gets up to and how far he goes

Can't believe anyone took this seriously for more than half a second, let alone the police. Clearly photoshopped, not even particularly well done. Original probably something like a Golden Retriever.

The news states:

Many netizens have reacted on social media since yesterday, with many pointing out that the animal looks more like a big dog, especially because of its hairy tail. The fact that no other testimony on the presence of a beast has occurred since (and that no disappearance of a lion has been reported) confirms the idea that Épalinges had a fright and a fish of April in advance. But it was certainly better to make sure.

The police recall that the intervention was substantial since it required the presence of several gendarmerie and mixed patrols, the municipal police of Lausanne, the canine brigade, the DARD, the support of a helicopter from the army with a gendarme, the security police, the nature wildlife police and the cantonal veterinarian.

That's kind of what I was thinking -- it's obviously a Golden Retriever that had plastic surgery and is on steroids.
