These be wasps?

I ask before I bring out the chemical weapons.

CK

Holy sh&t! Gross. And yes, I think so. Based on http://www.learnnc.org/lp/media/uplo...asp_larvae.jpg

they are...

get rid of them quick!

I like it, that you posted in "Pet Corner", as if you considered them Pets.

Whatever it is, I would spray them anyway, as no matter what kind of insects they are, their presence can be potentially damaging to your house, and they can be a pest in a few weeks/months.

Doc.

Maybe there should be a "Pest Corner"

You might as well leave this to the specialists. Your local fire department will surely send someone over to professionally take care of your stingy pets. Not sure, if they still do it for free, though, but maybe worth a phone call to ask. Unless you're a hero, that is

Many drug stores do pest control and can give you information/products or go to your house and take care of it themselves. I'd do it quickly before those babies hatch!

All that bright yellow pollen looks yummy.

I might larvae the leave *chuckle* for a while, will post update photo in a few days. Being hardly b4stards I expect my opening the window has not upset them.

Now for the sods that had decided to build the same type of structures inside the screw holes of the patio furniture, those holes have been blocked!

CK

Ewww CK, I would have collapsed had I found such disgusting stuff in my window sill! Good luck and I would try a pharmacist first then local office for pest control...

I've never seen wasps doing such nests. They usually make their funny houses. But take no risk - kill them all.

Some wild bees can do this kind of nest.

Reminds me of when I found a live nest in my roller blind cavity

Extermination Procedure

1. Close all windows and outside doors in house

2. Double check all are closed!

3. Remove roller blind interior service panel slowly and carefully so as not to upset the beasties

4. Empty one full can of powerful flyspray into cavity

5. Refit service panel fast and exit room promptly, closing door

6. Wait......

7. Have a beer......

8. Watch MTV.....

9. Take deep breath and inspect...?...!!

10. Voila! No more wasps!

11. Wait a day or two them dismember nest

This looks like mud dauber wasps. But the housing has been opened, damaged in some manner.

I wouldn't expect that they won't survive. I could be wrong.

You can just remove the nest right now, the larvae can't do anything to you.

Brian.

Invite them for a fishing trip

Only the queen wasp survives the winter, but bees survive as a colony.

Please call a bee keeper, the zoos in Switzerland are trying to save the local wild bees (which have very small nests). You shouldn't spray them unless authorized, all creatures are protected here. As someone mentioned, the fire service would help you get rid of them if they are wasps, though wasps do an awful lot of good; as they eat small insects like midges and gnats.

Looking again, your photo looks to me as though the insects are dead. I think the yellow is the standard insulating building foam, and the white things are mumified insects. Is there any movement?

Please contact these people and send them your photo,

FriendlyKiwi you didn't inform your neighbors? That would be, in Switzerland, a shooting offense yes?

the_clangers "But the housing has been opened, damaged in some manner." Yes, that was me that damaged the housing when I opened the window. I believe the wasp crawled in through the little hole that allows water to drain out from the window.. the 'houses' directly under the window insulation gap, I thought it neat how I can open the window to peer inside the houses!

This has been interesting reading. I think we have a wasp nest somewhere on the roof, as a few keep dropping in through the roof window. We have a window screen on it so they don't get inside. I was just considering calling an exterminator but seems I should try the Gemeinde first.

yes the Gemeinde or the firemen. it used to be a free service; since 2-3 years you have to pay if they come (it costed me 150chf).

I.. didn't see much movement but they are very small. The yellow is pollen, what you would see on the backend of a be, as can bee *chuckle* seen here

I'll wait and see if they grow any before giving a call / email. Perhaps this time next week.

CK

Fixed that for you.

Chemical weapons? WASPS are generally pretty tame. Just don't answer the door.

Now Scientologists, Jehovahs Witnesses and Mormons are a different question but chemical weapons are still not recommended.

I've always been told to leave an empty (dead) wasp's nest if it isn't causing any obstruction as it dissuades other wasps from making a nest there.

Would be interesting to know what they are, as that doesn't look like any wasp nest I've ever seen.
