Ah ok if you don't like to pay 130 chf then i think you won't like the apple webcam price
my brother owns it though and its really very good. those apple stores are generally the same price as the online store but just don't always have the same online discounts/offers.
I have the Logitech QuickCam Communicate STX, which I use as both webcam and microphone for videoconferencing with people in the US via Skype. I think it works great for $50 US, although a less expensive webcam would probably work just as well for use with Skype. I was looking at much better (more expensive) webcams, but the guy at the store recommended the least expensive one since I was only going to be using it for Skype only (and not making personal webcam videos for uploading).
Just slightly side-stepping your thread a tad but still within the realm of "Apple" ask your employer if you can get discounts from Apple through them. If yes then you can get about 10% off with Apple's EPP (Employee Purchase Program).
isnt it about time that you updated your computer to an imac? this comes with a beautiful screen flatscreen, a built in webcam, leopard operating system, and loads of software. it will be much more powerful and have a lot more memory available for you. starting at chf 1499.
I wasn't aware they were selling iSights separately anymore, I thought they stopped doing that when they started building them into the iMacs and notebooks as part of the body.
Since you already purchased a webcam, did you manage to finally get it to work.
If not, I can try to offer some help, but first I need some information.
1. If you purchased a Logitech webcam, could you check the label next to USB plug and give me the M/N and P/N from it.
2. Your eMac, which version of Mac OS do use on it? (You can find it by going to the Apple menu and select "About this Mac")
However, I can already say, that often - very often - it is not easy to get a webcam to work fully on a Mac, not just Logitech's, but everyones.
This is mainly due to the fact that Mac OS does not fully support 3rd party USB webcams. However, there are ways around this such as using webcam-osx.sourceforge.net or purchasing a webcam, which is UVC (USB Video Class) compatible. But, all of this again depends on the version of Mac OS you are running.
So, the sad news first: You webcam is not UVC, which does mean you need to use it with macam.
Unfortunately, this is not a stable solution, but it is possible to get it to work.
The best option you have available right now, is to make sure you have the latest Skype version, then remove macam and search for all macam files and thrash them. Then reinstall macam and remember to drag macam.component to MacintoshHD/Library/Quicktime folder, then restart the Mac and try to use it in Skype.
