What dogs give to us

One of the hardest parts of having a furry companion is realizing how short their time on this planet is compared to ours. Our pup is only 2.5 years old, and sometimes I feel like I’m already mourning her.

We just need to give them the best life that we can that is filled with adventure and treats!

My Brownie is 14 and slowing down, with major back and leg pains. I realise that her days with us are now counted. She’s older than two of my children, and I dread facing life without her…

We’ve been giving our old dog Librela injections, and while they don’t add years to her life, they seem to add life to her years. Might be worth looking into.

EDIT:

This is the drug I mentioned, Librela. It costs us about CHF 85.-/monat, and for my old dog there was an almost immediate positive impact on the pain she experiences in her joints from age-related arthritis. It’s expensive but worth it, at least to us.

Apart from the good things they give us, they also give us costs, logistic trouble, limitations for holidays, vet visit with more costs, lots of poo and other disgusting body products, stress with neighbours or their dogs.

And now you wish you had a groan button.

I will  your posts even when they’re groan-worthy, because I think that’s a more effective punishment for you than groaning!

One dog gave someone sepsis and he had his arms and legs, and nose amputated. The dog had licked him.

And I actually like dogs. We used to have a Great Dane.

Sounds like the Ministry of Love.

She gets Librela injection every month, had them for more than a year now. But the vet thinks her back pains are too strong even for Librela.

We’re trying specific painkillers like meta-calm, but she has a very fragile stomach and they make her throw up even with antacid tablets.

I’m looking into dog osteopaths now, to see if it can help. It’s very frustrating, because otherwise her blood tests are all good: strong heart, good liver, good kidneys.

That’s a very hard state to be in. Onsior is an effective pain killer which we have used for our old dogs and had good results. It’s not good for their kidneys, but when you have no good options, you take the least-bad options.

Good luck with your dog.

have to share a FB link, but this guy Jonny Devaney (he has IG too) makes video about how god created each bread and other funny topics about the dogs and life with dogs.
so if you want to have a laugh about why the dog’s are (not so) great, have a look at him.

Hi Melamine 06, not sure where you are located, but we take our 9 year old golden retriever to an osteopath in Ebmatingen. We started going since November last year and we have seen a massive change since going to Dr. Olga Martin. She specializes in pain therapy.

Thanks for your post, but unfortunately I’m too far… I’m in Vaud.

I’ll just post a review (not mine, but on the website)…says it all.

The current rating of 8 stars for this nonsense must come from either friends and family of he filmmaker, or people expressing their feelings about dogs in general (and I love dogs too) – but NOT this awful film.

The film is distributed by “Curiosity Stream” which after seen a few by this distributor I can only assume specializes in cheaply picking up bad documentaries that were never science based, or are no longer valid due to the new science.

There are so many sweeping statements about the evolution of dogs in “Mans’s best Friend” that are not supported by the science or have been outright debunked that it is painful to watch.

For 85chf a month that sounds like a complete bargain to improve a dogs QOL.

Baby sitting disaster

We are invited to my granddaughter’s wedding in England in the Summer.

We don’t want to put our dogs in a dog’s home because around here they have a long list of compulsory vaccinations. They are vaccinated against rabies but they are both old and we would like to avoid more vaccinations.

A neighbour whose dog died last year volunteered to take them so we planned a trial weekend now. We took them to him at 6 pm this evening, at 9:30 he rang and said he had an asthma attack could we collect them?

We usually take our dogs with us on holiday but it is not so easy in England, many hotels and restaurants do not allow them so it gets complicated.

Oh I’m so sorry for you Marton… I’m facing the same issues with my two dogs, and getting a reliable petsitter who doesn’t cost more than my own holidays is a nightmare!
