My bad. I just assumed that they had only recently caught on as my non-musical friends have only got their mits on OK Computer recently because of something they had read in Q.
Have to say Pablo Honey was my first Radiohead album (am I showing my age!?) but its the least listened to, I bought it on the back of hearing creep on MTV but it was the Bends that made me into a Radiohead fan.
But Creep is a great song...reminds me of my first boyfriend... (not that he was a creep).. we kissed to that song at his house party when his parents were on hols! And who would have thought radiohead could be romantic?!!!
I like Pablo Honey, more than Kid A or Amnesiac...Lurgee, Anyone Can Play Guitar, and of course Creep (which I do stil like despite my fondness for My Iron Lung...)
Today I'm giving Laura Marling a try, mate of mine has been telling me she's good for a while so I feel obliged to listen despite my "rip-off-of-Lily-Allen" misgivings...
... and so much of good music remains eternally beautiful, or even if [you or I or our parents or children or neighbours think] it is lousy, can still bring a wonderful bittersweet nostalgia. That's the amazing thing, how music can reach across cultures, across places, and yes, across lifetimes.
