What's your favorite Restaurant in Zurich?

+2 for Hiltl. Just because their crispy tofu salad is really like no other. nom nom nom

I'm going for....Cedre Bellvue. Good Lebanese.... mmmmmmmmmmm

Many decent restaurants in Zurich, though the very few I tried didn't impress me more than my kitchen.

This one is worth trying:

Really?? Sorry but I'll have to violently disagree - at least for the one at Zurich Bahnhofstrasse anyway.

I went there with some friends once and the Thai curry a friend ordered was just coconut milk with no other flavouring. The glass noodles and Pad thai the rest of us ordered were under cooked. When we sent back our food to be cooked properly, the chef had the cheek to tell the waitress to convey to us that it was cooked ok and dont bother sending it back because everything will turn out to be the same. W.T.F

I can concede that if one customer is dissatisfied, it might be due to personal preferences but there were 4 of us who thought it was shite.

Oh yes, we were served with a chipped wine glass too. No apology whatsoever. Needless to say, we refused to pay and left.

Tandoori Bbq..yummmm

...violently...refused to pay....sent back to kitchen....

I recommend Blue Elephant off Niederdorf as being really good. They do magical things with red snapper.

Summerain,

Sorry to hear your bad experience at Mishio.

It seems I was simply lucky to have decent food/service so far.

Your story doesn't surprise me though.

I am so disappointed with the service/food you get in (average) restaurant in Switzerland, that since my move, I have being opting for Mc Donald rather then having another (disappointing) lunch in an average restaurant.

I know, integration not going very well.

Samorai - Lochergut......best sushi in town!

Summarian,

I like the fact that you guys complained.

Many people, when asked if all was fine with the meal, choose to answer the usual "yes, thank you", even though the quality was horrible!

I also agree with Economisto. Food should be sent back to Kitchen when it is so bad!

Anyway, another Restaurant where I had a decent meal:

Or was I again simply lucky??

Thanks for the hint.

Have been looking for a good Japanese restaurant. Will try it next weekend!

i like this one too

With no doubts my all time favourite is Mère Catherine (Nägelihof 3). Specially in summer time! Sitting outside in the center of the city in such a quiet and beautiful little terrasse... great food + wine!!

My favorites are outside of Zurich a little bit.

Zum Pfugstein

Al Porto

I really really liked Restaurant Alpenrose (sorry, Google has let me down, no link) - but I was last there several years ago and so admittedly things might well have changed since.

Finally found some good Teppanyaki in the area. Nippon Sun only has one table but the food was quite nice.

After reading reviews on Zuritipp lately, we tried out "Zen" in Adliswil. According to the quite reliable paper "probably the best Chinese restaurant in the region of Zurich"!

They have a nice website as well: http://www.restaurant-zen.ch/

So I must admit, my expectations were high.

Result:

They are mentioned in the guide Michelin and priced accordingly. "Up market" - even for Zurich standards. I have no problem to pay for good food, but with the price grow my expectations and they were frankly not met: The food was not bad at all, they have a wide variety of home made Dim Sum and we tried a mixed platter of it (around 18 CHF per person for one basket with six pieces per person). Not bad and probably really the best we had in Zurich, but far from the real deal in Asia or even other restaurants we visited in Europe. Main courses were pretty similar: "Westernized but not as much as the other places" would describe it well in one sentence. Given the price level - I'd say between 1.5 and 2 times the price of "Beyond", we expected a bit more. They seem to have some special Dim Sum day on Sundays, decent priced lunch menus during the week and their Beijing Duck looks good as well, so I cannot say we will never go again - but not for the regular a la carte.
