I'm arriving in Baden next week and, please, I would like to have some tips to buy a laptop (notebook). I don't want to waste a lot of time looking for that, because, this tool will be communication with my family and for my personal use.
I saw that there is a Interdiscount in Baden. Some questions:
Is it possible to find in this store, laptop with English OS?
Which is the best laptop brand in your opinion between CHF 1250 and 1750 (of course with English OS) ?
Are there other store in Baden or other close city that has prompt laptops to buy?
Discounters sell standard products: Swiss German keyboard German OS You could bring (or mail order) and install an English OS. The keyboard could be a real hassle!
Just saw what looks to be an interesting bundling deal by Sunrise (T@KE AWAY). If you subscribe to their mobile internet, you can get a Fujitsu laptop and the mobile modem for 549CHF (or 999CHF for a better configured laptop).
Might be a good deal for someone who needs a new laptop.
Regarding the English O/S question, we recently purchased an Acer 5720 with Windows Vista Home Premium on it.
We asked the guy in the store about language and as he informed us, when we turned it on the first thing it asked was English/French or German install ...
So, it seems it is less of a problem than it used to be but ASK before you buy as it may not be a normal thing.
Just have to get used to the DE-CH keyboard now ... 8-)
(If you phone Dell direct they will do a UK or US keyboard but they don't always appear on the web site as listed alternative options ...)
Thanks JVC! But how about the configuration? that I know, you pay more for the same configuration in other computers with MS softwares... Or this is the price of "quality" that you have when you buy a Mac???
We got the Acer from Inter-discount in Bern on Aabergergasse as it was on offer at CHF 999.- and was a good spec (for the geeks: Intel Duo core 2.5GHz, 4Gb RAM, 250Gb, Wifi, LCD 15.4") and they take credit cards unlike good old Media Markt.
Look for an offer, we waited around 6 weeks until something came up that was good.
From experience avoid digitec, they don't always have what you actually want available or in stock ... there have been posts about them here too ...
You order via their website and pick up on location, this is how they keep their prices down. You can also have the stuff sent. They do have a showroom, but the waiting times are very long. It is the best option if you know exactly what you want (eg. windowshop in Mediamarkt, but purchase on digitec).
