Yeeeeah… so he did!
Ahhh, Fridays of sweet paranoia via the Tages Anzeiger.
14 Rappen or 8.6% increase for lead-free RON95 gasoline.10.7% increase for diesel. The sky is falling!!!
Anyway, a bit of context sneaked into the article.
When I was looking for a car I got told several times that public transport is excellent, no need for a car. And that I absolutely should not get a car I could not afford. Cars are money pits!. I can only pass the excellent advice I got at the time.
Now up to 1.99 for diesel, petrol gone up a bit to 1.65.
Just filled the Dacia at 2.20 p.l…
Thank you Trump.
Maybe I’ll fill up the car before god knows what will happen this weekend.
Finally, I found some interesting numbers, instead of short-term vision fed by media.
The price disruption caused by the further invasion of Ukraine lasted from Feb 2022 to Feb 2023. @slammer, I don’t remember you thanking Mr. Putin, don’t discriminate him!
I guess COVID made everyone forget an entire year of expensive fuel.
Price index from the Swiss Federal Office of Energy::
And the strategic reserves managed by the Swiss Federal Office for National Economic Supply. It may become really expensive, but there will be fuel. If the prices increase significantly, demand will decrease and the 4.5 month reserve can become a lot more months.
Oh no, I thanked Puti a while back.
Euros? That is onlyCHF1.99
…so it does…!
Be grateful that we don’t have oil in Switzerland. Imagine a lobby like the farmers one, you would pay CHF 10 per liter easily…
I am very grateful that pineapples don’t grow here…
In my youth a beer in a bar was the same as one liter of gasoline. Seems that cheap gas is not a human right. Cheap beer should be one, as it is basic food!
This is a massive hit to the global energy grid , losing 20% of the world’s LNG basically guarantees a price spike and a long, cold recovery. Even if the fighting stops tomorrow, that one-month restart time means we’re in for a very rough few weeks.
Donald Trump said the US had “obliterated every MILITARY target” on Iran’s crucial Gulf oil export hub Kharg Island, and warned that he would attack the energy assets if Tehran impeded more shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.
I’m guessing if he does that, there’ll not be much use in the strait being open again.
Well, every action has its consequences. The next Iranian targets would be soft petroleum export facilities in the GCC. Saudi has a port on the Red Sea but it too is vulnerable to drones. As is the East/West pipeline.
Even the risk that Iran would do so would be enough to drive fuel prices to $200 or more per bbl
Gas-guzzling US citizens would absolutely hate that.
They would hate that but it may be part of the Trump administrations strategy. They would love to be able to declare a general state of emergency across the whole USA and expand presidential executive powers. The more chaos the better. People getting killed, no problem, but preferably few Americans citizens. Iranians, Palestinians, Israelis or anyone else, just a number on the play station console.
Huge if true… ![]()
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Saturday said the Strait of Hormuz is open and that the strategic route is only closed to the US and Israeli vessels.
“As a matter of fact, this Straits of Hormuz is open. It is only closed to the tankers and ships belonging to our enemies, to those who are attacking us and the allies. Others are free to pass,” Araghchi told MS Now in an interview on Saturday.
Also quoting Stalin:
“One death is a tragedy, a million is a statistic”
It woud take a very brave or foolhardy captain to be the first to try this especially as Iran goes in for the distributed command approach so whether all the Iran units along the Strait were tuned into this rule and able to differentiate between the different nations…
some part of me is saying iran is being 2-faced just like trump and using this as a ploy to taunt trump …
there is honor even among thieves, but trump does not know nor subscribe to it.
trump sent his negotiators, publicly claimed he did not like the state of negotiations (justification) and started this war … iran (the little tiny incapable country) inviting other nations ship through the strait and then ‘oops’, only raises the stakes for trump to escort ships (UK just declined trump’s request to send ships to protect merchant vessels through strait of hormuz).
Huge part of all shipping through the strait is in US interest, directly or indirectly …
I imagine the marine insurance companies would want word, too…
Oil Conflict? All that has to be done is to repeal the 1920 Jones act.
