Most people do have two sets of wheels.
Rims are comparatively cheap
ok but then what about the pressure sensors?
A minor cost of the wheel and tire set.
The car takes 2-3 mins to recognize the new sensors after wheel and tire change.
TPMS is built into the car (not the tires). Only need to do a reset after each change or refill.
How often do you guys inflate your tires?
First reasonable video I found in YT, plenty of others around. This is the job at tire shop:
1 - The mechanic uses the OBD tool to ask car computer the unique IDs of TPM sensors connected to it.
2 - new sensors are empty, the existing unique ID is copied to new sensors.
3 - After you install the wheels with new sensors, the car takes a few mins to synchronize with them.
About once between tire changes when the low pressure sensor lights up. Or when the car is loaded down.
When seasonal temperatures changes of 15 or so degrees occur. Winter > Spring, Autumn > Winter. Otherwise, never.
When it gets colder, tires loose like 0.1-0.2 bars. When it gets warmer, the opposite direction. I always keep the tires at the minimum possible pressure.
Do you use those refillable compressed air tanks at the petrol station? I only have to top up my tyres once, max twice, in between winter/summer tyre changes but they are so damn fiddly to use. Or is it just me..?
I refill with those fiddly things. Then, check once again with the bike air pump.
Seasonal tire changes may soon become a thing of the past
Hopefully not. But, becoming a climate change refugee is a nice story to tell with beer in hand among friends.
Winter Tires/Tyres MANDATORY in France from 1 November.
From WRS
From Saturday, winter tyres are compulsory in the neighbouring French departments.
The law applies to all vehicles, irrespective of country of registration.
Tyres now have to be marked with the three-peaked mountain symbol â the simple M+S stamp is no longer valid.
The tyres have to be on all wheels â not just the drive wheels.
If you donât have winter tyres, then you should be carrying snow chains.
Not having the right tyres means a EUR 135 fine and the car could be impounded until new tyres are fitted.
Getting ours changed over on Monday morning. ![]()
I may have to drive to Stuttgart by 3rd week of november. I just realized winter tires regulation in Germany is about the same as Switzerland. No obligation, but if you donât have them and crashâŚtrouble.
Getting ours done on Thursday.
Weather should be fine for the next two weeks.
Usually, thereâs cold few days with a bit of snow actually at the end of November - and then no freezing until after Christmas.
So, you could actually get by with Summer tires until Christmas, if you skip driving the car in those days with sub 5°C temperatures.
I did that for a while when I was living near Munich and just didnât move the car when it had snowed. It worked great, until it didnât anymoreâŚ
