Winter Tires/Tyres 2025/2026 version

I need a new winter tyre - side-wall damage.

I could get a garage to order and fit it or I could order one from ReifenDirekt and get a garage here to fit it.

Are tyre places generally amenable to swapping a tyre or do they baulk at the idea that one didn’t buy the tyre from them?

If you roar up with tyres in your boot they will have no idea where you sourced them. Why would they object?

I’m sure they wouldn’t object but I wondered whether it was frowned upon.

I guess not as if no one did it, Reifendirekt wouldn’t exist.

In my experience if you go to one of the local ‘one man’ independent garages they’ll happily do it for you.

I thought that too, but when I emptied the oil and filled it with fresh, it worked a lot quicker.

If you are worried, ReifenDirekt have a search function of garages who will fit their tires and prices.

Yes, I found that just after my post so I ordered the tyre!

I ordered from RifenDirect for many years, always good service & good prices.

Same here, and our local garage hasn’t made a fuss about replacing or swapping out every year.

Got the winter tires yesterday. In several nights of the last week the car makes the below 3°C warning.

IIRC it is 6-8° overnight temperatures. In the west here we are only looking at temperatures approaching low digits sometime next week. But at border crossings into France there are signs that Winter tires are obligatory.

You live next to a big thermal buffer called Lac Léman

Last night in Rüebliland (Wasserschloss is a deceptive name) 2.2°C at 400 meters above sea level. I wouldn’t be surprised if the roads in nearby hills had a bit of frost this morning.

Anyway, around 7-8°C the winter and summer tires provide the same grip (friction coefficient), below 7°C, the winter tire has more grip.

Got them mounted just 2h ago.

Pretty much nailed it this year with the temperatures and all.

That’s the last thing one wants in a tire.
