You've been Switzerlanded (orig. "Holy mother of god [Film developing cost]")

what model is your current DSLR?

you can get a top of the line 1v for around £300 and an eos 620 for less than £50.

EDIT: i buy my film online from ebay. cheap prices and convenient delivery to your door.

THanks for the link!

I didnt see this before I made my complaint about the very same problem...

Hi all,

Answering my own question... Interdiscount develops photos in 10x15 format for 0.60 cents per photo (Premium) or 0.30 cents per photo (Standard). At least the ones in HB and Sihlstrasse have the forms to drop the roll, not sure about others. I have no idea of how long it takes.

FotoGanz in HB also does development. The price is a bit more expensive (more 10-20 cents per photo than Interdiscount). According to them the Standard price takes about two weeks to develop, and Premium 1 or 2 days.

This is all for 35mm rolls, other kinds of film probably have other prices. From what I understood this price includes development *and* printing.

As for rolls, Interdiscount sells 2+1 free rolls of 36 photos each or 2 rolls of 24 photos each for less than 20 CHF. FotoGanz has lots of rolls to choose from, but no idea about prices.

Didn't remember to check Migros, so no idea about that. Also, no idea about the quality of these places!

But anyway, it seems not too expensive to give it a go. I'll probably get a Canon EOS 300v, seems a good balance between price, features, and newness of the camera.

Thanks again for all the tips!

Thanks all for the pointers to other labs, I'm looking for another lab after the (very disappointing) scans I got for my last 4 (35 mm) rolls, for just about 250.- -- that was C41 + scans only, no prints!

Back to the original question: yes, that's quite expensive unless you got 36 prints as well. On average, I've paid around 57.- for each 36-frame 35 mm roll ( C41 + 6.1 MP scans ).

There is yet another issue with finding the right film lab for some works: who will enlarge your photos rather than scan and print them? There is a difference, depending on each photo, and I need that now. Shouldn't be too hard to find, 2nd lab I tried in Dublin did it and the above "C41 + 6MP scans" combo was only about €18 per 36-frame 35 mm roll. I used to shoot a lot of film when I lived there, film was a lot cheaper than a proper DSLR until some time passed

I use ars-imago.ch in Zug. A shop for film enthusiasts by enthusiasts.

For 4+ rolls it costs 10 CHF a roll to develop

Each roll costs 20 CHF to scan

Here

Just 20.- to scan a 36-frame roll at 2400 dpi???

That's gotta be worth a try with my next roll, thanks!

Hilarious!!

I went to the photo developers at sihlcity in 2010. They said it would cost chf1.20 per photo regardless of how many I had. I had 236 photos to get done. I started to laugh as I though he was joking but he was not . I did them online with bonus print instead and they charged me £13.

Thanks for all the helpful info here. It was quite a shock when I got my first roll back. If I remember correctly it was around 40 CHF, for development and prints. A bit more than I'm used to spending. I'll give some of these other options a try.

Thanks all!

Not really worth a 5|-|IT, I'm just glad I tried with a roll I didn't care too much about

Indeed, you get what you pay for, 30.- for developing and scanning a 36mm Kodak TCN400, the whole thing was pretty smooth until I saw the scans: Worst Ever. By Far.

They used an Epson Perfect V700, supposedly a groundbreaking device with very smart dust removal. I got that film (TCN 400) from hebting.ch as "the Kodak B&W film that can have dust removed by scan software" when I brought in a T-Max roll and found the scans had quite some dust.

So I expected these new scans to come out with far less dust.

This is the dustiest photo from that old T-Max roll:

This is the one (that I can share) with least dust in the new roll:

Amazing, isn't?

There is one winner shot in the new roll and it got awarded with more dust than all the others ¬¬

I think next try will be studio13.ch and I'll have to shoot less film (and shoot better) and be ready to pay a lot, but I hope that one's really worth it. They are my last hope.

To Be Continued...

I had an irrational urge to get the cloth out and wipe my monitor to get rid of the dust!

No film development!

But this company had good reports for printing in a German consumer test, (Stiftung Warentest, & Computer Bild)

Yes, it's Aldi !

My own irrational urge is not suitable for public consumption

I had had a fair share of fun with my old SLR Canon EOS300 with set of lenses until it was stolen back in 2007. I often used to shed a tear upon this loss, not until I've read this thread. I'm glad that I went digital. Even iPhone 4G can be a nice amateur tool

I'm glad I found this thread, with good information! I'm looking for a good place to do 135 & 120, C-41 and E-6

You need this place in Zug, you can post your films to them: http://www.ars-imago.ch/

Alessandro who runs the place is really friendly and speaks English if you don't speak a local language.

Don't be too hard on them. Did he have a Ferrari parked out back? Hey! You've gotta finance it somehow😉

Welcome to the Forum, Rick. It's clear how you found us. I was wondering how long it would take before someone actually revived this thread...

Me too but I was hoping it would be revived by someone who actually shoots film

My hubby does, and I'm here, but I suppose that doesn't count.

You always count :-)

What does hubby shoot with?
